Contraception that will stop periods?

I have just had a baby and am looking to go back on contraception. I was previously on the pill but have had lots of issues with it over the years, my periods have always been quite heavy and I constantly had breakthrough bleeding whilst on the pill even when taking the active pills.

I was wondering if anyone has experience of contraception that stopped their period? Since mine are so heavy I would ideally like to not have to worry about them. I had considered the implant but friends have told me conflicting things - for some of them their period stopped completely and for others they had a non-stop period for months!

The injection works for me but I understand a lot of women don't have the same experience. I saw lots of women say the coil but that didn't stop my periods or even slow them down!

There is no standard contraception that will be guaranteed to stop periods. Mine stopped on the cerazette mini pill but some women get prolonged bleeding with it. The mirena coil.also stopped mine but again this may not be the same for all women.

The injection made me bleed and also put on a lot of weight. Havent tried the implant.

I'm on the Progesterone only pill and I don't have periods.

I have had the mirena coil in the last 17 years since my last baby. I have had virtually no periods ( on my 4th ) and it has worked brilliantly for me. It is controversial especially on line as I suppose people tend to post about it when they are having issues rather than it being great. I have a lot of female medic friends and it is a very popular contraception with them.

I’ve had the Mirena coil for nearly 4 years now and I love it. I don’t have any periods. The first 2 or 3 months were a bit up and down but worth it. Highly recommend it
