I’ve had what i am pretty sure is a Bartholin’s Cyst for 12 days now. It swelled up overnight after having sex and within 12 hours was the size of a grape. I’d say it’s 80% internal and 20% just at the entrance.
Saw the GP quicksmart who agreed (“textbook”, apparently), and prescribed 7 days of (enormous) antibiotics. Fabulous. Except I’m now on day 6/7 of the course and it’s made no difference whatsoever.
It isn’t getting any bigger or smaller. I think it’s possibly got harder, but still grape sized.
It doesn’t have a head and doesn’t appear to have any intention of growing one, so I don’t think it’s going to burst.
It isn’t painful- just uncomfortable at times, which is throwing me; i expected it to come to a head, be excruciating and then pop, but have read that maybe that means it’s stopped at cyst stage rather than abscess stage. Which is good, but it can’t stay there!
As well as the week of ABx I’ve done at least twice daily hot baths, hot compresses, hot showers on it etc. Have tried massaging it and no change.
I need to get it sorted- I definitely can’t have sex, I’m not convinced i could get a tampon past it and, well, it just can’t be good for the area!
My GP isn’t showing any appointments for two weeks.
It isn’t actually painful so I am not sure it warrants an urgent appointment, but equally i think something needs to happen sooner.
Anyone know or have any experience - would it be a referral to gynae now? Could the GP do that without examining me again?
