Lump on neck!

So the other day I was washing my hair and I felt a small lump on the back of my head. It's the lower back my head in my hair. It became really painful so I assumed it was a spot and tried to squeeze it. Anyway this made it much worse, it mustn't have been a spot, I have no idea what it was.
Not much later I also felt a lump under the skin at the bottom of my hairline on the back of my neck. It's very small, definitely isn't a spot as it's under the skin.
That whole section of the back of my head is very sore. It hasn't really died down since I felt it on Friday, and it has even woken me up during the night because it's so sore.
What on earth could this be? How long do I leave it before I go to the doctors or get some help? Who would I even go and see about a spot on my head?
The one in my hair will look like a spot now because I tried to squeeze it but I'm not even sure that's what it was. I'm really worried about this and I don't know what to do.
There is definitely been no impact or incident which would've caused these. I am otherwise well and I am 32 years old!

Any advice?

Sometimes when I've had quite bad spots on my neck or under my hair I've ended up with an inflamed lymph node
Same when I've had sore ears from wearing earrings
Could it be that ?

Definitely get it checked as it's near your lymph nodes

Have you recently been Ill/infection in the last month or so?

midnightblue12 · 20/03/2023 20:49

Yeah we've all been quite run down recently but I've been feeling much better this past week!
I spoke to a pharmacists who said the lump in my hair could be infected and the one of the hairline a boil under the skin? I'm actually in agony tonight, he did recommend to get some antibiotics from the go.
Im just so worried!
It doesn't help I can't see. I managed to get a pic of the one in my hair... (ignore my wet though as I've just washed it! Again bloomin painful!!!)

I've had these recently. When I spoke to the doctor they said it could be an infected hair follicle and prescribed a steroid and antibiotic cream for it. I did get it to the point where stuff was coming out of it, it was like a clear sticky liquid and once it had gone, it did leave a small bald patch on my head (just to forewarn, hopefully it won't!). I had one a few years ago so knew what to expect and when it came back recently, albeit in a different place and then another started to grow I thought it was definitely time to speak to the doctors. It cleared up really quickly with the cream though and hair has grown back in the patch

I've just been to the go.
The lump (which has now moved upwards) is a linth node and there is a small infected cyst. Too small for oral antibiotics but got antibiotic cream. I'm in agony :( I've never felt anything liek this before!

I get regularly hard lumps on the bottom of my scull.
These are lymphatic nodes, I have very bad dermatitis and atopy in my scalp my whole life- I have these nodes huge when my condition is particular bad.

midnightblue12 · 21/03/2023 14:39

Oh no I'm sorry to hear that!
Do you find the linth nodes get soar? Mien feel so painful! But mainly it's the small cysts... it's so painful!

@midnightblue12 yes they can get sore. Also they can be hard or soft, I had few times sore ones, I got all over back of my head.
My scalp can get very bad, weeping, bleeding with crusty hills , literally like a very bad thick dandruffs, I use steroid lotions and shampoos for these.
