Those with gum issues - try taking probiotics

Honestly I’ve been in such a funny place lately I’ve only just figured out what’s changed.

i started taking probiotics a few weeks ago. I remember a thread on here about someone’s husband taking probiotics for his gum issues and it making a really positive difference. Well I’ve just realised my gums have been far less inflamed and whilst I would usually have issues around a crown and an exterior filling it’s all been very quiet in my mouth.

I was mulling it over yesterday and couldn’t think of anything I’d changed diet wise etc and then today I reached for the probiotics and a lightbulb went off.

Im happy to share the brand although it was just one from a supermarket that was on offer. I’d love for other to try it and see if it’s helps them too.

Oooh, interesting. I bought Biomel and tomorrow is day 7. Already seeing some improvement in gut - on a vitamin regime for deficiencies and it's caused havoc - but this would be a game changer if true!

Bakingmamma · 16/03/2023 19:06

What brand please? Sounds good.

Teenagekicksmyass · 16/03/2023 19:07

I have gum issues. I need two implants but the dentist is reluctant to do them until my gums are in a better place. She said it might be my hormones as I am menopausal.

I’d love to know what brand you use?

Rattymare · 16/03/2023 19:10

I would love to know too. I had 5 teeth out last year so I will try anything to stop the rest going the same way.

Nottodayplease36 · 16/03/2023 19:10

What brand please? I have gum issues and would like to try this.

sixfoot · 16/03/2023 19:12

Also interested in which brand

SilverGlitterBaubles · 16/03/2023 19:15

Ohh very interesting. I had a hygienist appointment and big lecture about it last week, my gums have been bad since I had DCs despite regular dentist visits. Placemarking.

TomatoSandwiches · 16/03/2023 19:17

Sounds interesting, do you need prebiotic and prebiotic for them to work effectively?

HuggingtheHRT · 16/03/2023 19:17

This is interesting... I swear my gum disease has been worse since I had antibiotics for a chest infection. Maybe there's something in this.

Ooh I have replies lol. I’m not being suspenseful. The brand I bought was one called Probio7 but honestly I just grabbed it so I’m not claiming it’s THE brand to buy.

Im looking at the front of the packet and it says Original - 4 billion friendly bacteria.

Id love to know if it helps anyone else.

You can get specific oral probiotics - they’re called dental probiotics. There’s quite a bit of choice on Amazon. They’re usually gummies so you chew them.

My understanding is that there’s a bit more evidence supporting the effectiveness of dental probiotics than there is around the use of probiotic supplements in general.

Im about to click buy on some dental probiotics- what’s selling me is the claims that they can also help with ENT issues which I really suffer from. As well as awful teeth.

Jonei · 18/03/2023 11:22

That's interesting, I'll try that. Thanks for posting.

Jmaho · 18/03/2023 11:25

Thank you I'm going to give them a try
I've had gum issues since my first pregnancy in 2009 and they've never got better
I brush my teeth thoroughly twice a day using an electric Toothbrush I use interdent sticks and use mouthwash even bought a water flosser
I don't have any fillings but my gums are awful

RudsyFarmer · 18/03/2023 22:15

Fantastic. Im
honestly not promoting any particular brand I just can’t believe something is actually working! I started suffering with issues in my second pregnancy so that’s 8 years ago!

This is really interesting, thanks for sharing this OP!

@Jmaho Same thing happened to me - perfect teeth and gums until I had my babies (a long time ago now!) and been plagued with gum problems ever since, which seemed to get worse with each pregnancy. Teeth are still good so no problems there but gums are awful and bleed a lot.

Has anyone used dental probiotics that they can recommend?

Ridingfree · 18/03/2023 22:33

Very interested in this, brush and floss daily but my gums never seem to improve- I worry about losing my teeth

DieselBlue89 · 18/03/2023 23:07

Interesting! Which makes me think that wiping out all the bacteria (including friendly bacteria) with a mouthwash must have the opposite effect.

RudsyFarmer · 02/04/2023 08:40

Anyone tried the probiotics yet? I started taking two a day which is nooody expensive but I’m still enjoying the benefits and sucking it up 😬
