Mirena coil bleeding fed up

So had a mirena in about 7 weeks ago to manage irregular and mid cycle bleeding, after previously trying the pill for 7 months and bleeding every single day.

Many consultants have said it will solve all my problems….

but I’m just bleeding daily now and I’m fed up.

If I didn’t have luck with the mini pill, will I likely continue to bleed with the mirena coil too?

I really need this to work, I’m only in my mid 30s and the bleedings been going on years now.

I have had the mirena coil in for 7 years and my bleeding is still irregular and often goes on for weeks at a time....

I got one last July and I am still bleeding on and off. Never enough blood to need a tampon, but enough to be annoying since it is pretty random. I had scans (internal and external) done last month and it’s all fine - apparently it can take a year to fully settle.

My bleeding lasted 3 months but then nothing for the next 3 years. Hang in there!

Mrsworried1 · 15/03/2023 20:53

I fear it’s actually getting worse week by week! It’s a little heavier every day! Plus the cramps 😭 xx

Mini pill didn't work for me, I'm 36 and got the coil nearly a year ago. It took 6 months to settle (roughly) and it has been a game changer - it really has solved all my problems with irregular/heavy bleeding and pain.

emmathedilemma · 16/03/2023 09:28

I had the mirena before the mini pill and both made me bleed more often and heavier than before. I had the mirena for a year before it actually bled itself out in a particularly spectacular episode that involved a pointless trip to A&E. I also had cramps like I'd never had in my life to the point that I had days off work sick it was so bad. I took the mini pill for 12 weeks before I decided enough was enough of that. Ask for it to be removed, they'll keep telling you it might settle down but I'd put money on it that it won't.

So I’ve passed the 3 month mark- still spotting daily! Is anyone else as fed up as me 😭 x

My Mirena was expelled finally, after four months of spotting and bleeding. I've had the copper coil for eight years now and it's been a far better experience.

Mrsworried1 · 25/04/2023 14:47

oh no! I really hoped this would be the answer to all my bleeding issues! I’m so frustrated I’ve practically bled daily for 3 years now 😭 xx

Mine bled daily for the first 5-6 months but then abruptly stopped - after that I didn't have a period for 10 years which was amazing, but I'm now awaiting investigation because they have started again (and with a vengeance 😭)

Mrsworried1 · 26/04/2023 14:17

Oh no! It really is awful when you have gynaecology issues isn’t it!
hope mine settles by month 5/6, it kind of has to work for me, I’m out of options! Maybe too young for a hysterectomy at 34! Xx

Just here to update-
had my coil six months now, months 4-5 settled down to odd spotting on and off… and just at the six month mark I’ve started bleeding as heavy as my previous periods and it’s been going for 5 days with no signs of stopping.

I haven’t got an appointment with gynae until the end of November.

I was virtually promised by them
that by 6m all my issues would have stopped!

I’m so surprised I’m not anemic after bleeding so much for the last 3 years, next step is an
ablation. Ridiculous to be getting all this trouble in my early 30s! X
