Pelvic floor dysfunction

Can anyone please tell me if I can do a self referral for pelvic floor therapy?. I am convinced I have pelvic floor dysfunction after the birth of my second child. It's so annoying to go on with it. I want to get therapy for it bit my GP is not of much use as she says symptoms will get better over time. Anyone here have got pelvic floor therapy done? Any advice please?

I asked for a referral for a women’s physio. The first GP refused but I went back and asked a different one who immediately referred me. If you can afford it and they won’t refer you then do find a private physio. It’s incredibly helpful. Also check out the podcast Why Mum’s Don’t Jump to feel less alone!

@hemulensdress thanks I'll check with another GP and if she isn't helpful I might go private. But the thing is there is a therapy centre just 7 mins walk from my home and it's an NHS one and it would be really helpful for me as I don't drive.

Good luck! There are lots of good resources / pelvic therapists on Instagram and YouTube but nothing beats a real life physio.

I think I might have PFD after childbirth.
what are your main symptoms?
mine is feeling the need to pee all the time.

pelweaktore · 21/04/2023 13:50

@Shelan1029 My symptoms are related to bowel movements. I have constipation or a feeling of incomplete bm.

Hi OP, did you ever get to the pelvic floor therapy and did it help? I want to see one for similar symptoms

pelweaktore · 17/03/2025 21:11

@Mama4050My GP refused to refer for physiotherapy saying they only treat women with incontinence issues. Mine is more of a rectocele which leads to incomplete BM. I still suffer with this issue only thing that’s helped is laxatives so the problem doesn’t get worse.
