I'm always HUNGRY

I'm always hungry, It is genuine hunger my tummy actually rumbles. The only thing I can think why I'm like this is because I'm still breast feeding my 14 month old. I'm not over weight in the slightest, actually 2 stone lighter than pre pregnancy.
The reason I'm writing here is to ask if anyone else is the same? I have other BFing friends who aren't as hungry as me. I am aiming to eat healthier with less carbs to curb the cravings.
An example of a typical day...
breakfast /
Cheerios with milk
A banana
Snack-
Few biscuits
2 slices whole meal toast with cream cheese
Chicken satay sticks
Lunch-
Yesterday it was small jacket potato with cheese and Turkey mince chilli
An orange
Some raspberries
A packet of mini cheddars
Afternoon snack -
Crackers
Handful of nuts
Chocolate tea cake x2
Dinner-
Well this varies so much but last night was chicken breast with Spanish grains and some spinach and then a yoghurt for pudding.
I don't generally eat anything else then in the evening.
But I get hungry very quickly, like within an hour after a meal.

Probably not enough ..
so usually around 4 cups of tea and a cup of coffee a day. About 3 glasses of water.

Your list of food sounds right to me, unless you are very tall. Grains, protein, fibre. Maybe bigger portions at meal time?

TwilightSkies · 10/03/2023 11:47

Yeah I was always starving when breastfeeding. Your body uses a lot of energy to produce milk!

I'm like this 5 months in! I feel like I'm eating double breakfasts (because DS feeds a lot overnight...) and A LOT of snacks when I'm not normally the snacking type. What you're eating sounds fine to me, reminds me I'm currently hungry despite a giant portion of porridge this morning, and otherwise agree, drink more water.

Ps sounds like a good amount of fruit. Could you increase your protein maybe?

I'm 5 foot 8.5 inches so fairly tall. I do eat a good portion but not absolutely massive because since having gallbladder surgery (few weeks ago) I just can't eat as much x

Glad I'm not the only once then! It's been like it since he was a newborn. It reduced a bit as I wasn't well with gallbladder problems but now that's been removed I'm back to my starving self lol.
Maybe I could try and up my protein but already eat quite a bit.
Cheese
Cream cheese
Turkey mince (with kidney beans in too)
Chicken satay sticks
Chicken breast
In one day. Obviously I eat different every day.
Sometimes I eat too many biscuits and it makes me even hungrier !

That's a fair amount of protein actually. I only suggested it as you're wanting not to stock up on carbs. Carbs though are what's seeing me through, especially in the form of peanut butter sandwiches or toast slices. I'm enjoying the excuse to eat more!!

I was going to start a very similar thread last week op!

My dd is 7 weeks old - I’m breastfeeding on demand and ALWAYS hungry, but unlike you, I haven’t lost weight.
I could eat 2 bowls of pasta and still eat more. I rarely feel full.
After reading pp comments, I think I need to eat more protein & drink more water.
