Urine sample for smear test??

I've received a letter asking me to book a smear test. It's been quite a few years since my last one - I think maybe the frequency of test must have been reduced it's more than 3 which I'm sure is what it used to be.

Anyway, all expected except for a single line all in caps on the second page: IT IS IMPORTANT TO BRING A URINE SAMPLE WITH YOU WHEN YOU ATTEND. Is this correct? I'm not sure if it's a mistake as there is nothing else on the second page.

And if so, surely they would give you a pot in the surgery to do it there rather than expect you to wee into your own Tupperware and pop it into your handbag to bring with you? No way would I do that.

I'm just giving this a hopeful bump because I've just received a reminder to book the smear test, this time with a leaflet with information in it. No mention of bringing a urine sample this time. Am I safe to presume it was a mistake and if I turn up without one it will be ok? I don't mind having the smear but I'm not bringing a tub of wee with me.

I've never heard of this
If they want one then you can do one there but I wouldn't take one

Back in the day when I worked in General Practice, the smear appointments were a ‘well woman” opportunity to check Blood pressure and wee test, BMI and other general health related stuff (smoking, alcohol etc). It was useful for picking up incipient T2 diabetes/ hypertension and similar issues that can start without obvious symptoms. That might be why you are asked to bring a specimen. You can buy a sterile container at most pharmacies.
