Mirena - sudden bleeding after long gap.

I'm onto my third Mirena IUS. After having no periods at all for around 12 years, I started monthly pink-spotting again a few months ago. Maybe to do with my age? (I'm 49).

I now have a proper (light but bloody) period, my first since 2012, and have been bleeding for over 2 weeks now. What is going on?

Current Mirena was inserted 18 months ago so quite new and definitely still there (can feel the strings). No pain.

My GP said that this can happen during Peri Menopause and the best way to control it is to take Utrogestan in conjunction with the Mirena to balance out progesterone which at 49 will have dropped.
Also, may be a good idea to speak to your GP to rule out fibroids, cysts etc?

I have just experienced the same thing. 48 peri menopausal no bleeding for 6 months after insertion and now a bright red short bleed. Very odd and a bit worried

I had this too, very light bleeding on and off for a year then a normal period. I had a smear which was fine and also an ultrasound which showed no problems and everything in place. The doctor said sometimes it can happen and wasn’t worried.

I assume it’s peri menopause but very disconcerting after no bleeds for 6 months. Anyone got any advice?
