Tender under armpit.. worried..

I noticed last night my right armpit is really tender. To move it hurts and to press it's excruciating. It feels quite warm. Nothing to feel what I can make out or see.
I'm panicking myself in case it's something sinister like breast cancer. I have a cold at the moment and I've just had the mirena coil fitted? Surely it's not either of those though?

More likely swollen gland or the start of an armpit cyst.

Could be the start of a boil if you are quite low, it is a common place to get them

davegrohll · 07/03/2023 18:58

Could be your gland is up especially if you have a cold atm so your body is fighting virus

Swannning · 07/03/2023 18:59

I regularly get boils / sebaceous cysts in my armpits that start just like this - sometimes they burst spontaneously, sometimes with a little squeezing and other times need anti biotics. Please try not to worry Flowers

Please do see a doctor, sounds like an infection

prettyraindrops · 07/03/2023 19:02

Thank you. There's nothing to be seen or feel at the moment but it's just so tender to movement and to touch. I've read Sarah Harding's autobiography and I remembered her saying her breast cancer starting with pain so the hypochondriac in me is worrying. It just started last night randomly when I was laid in bed and it kept waking me up in the night when I moved.

I have a particular spot on my left armpit where there must be a gland which for the past few years becomes painful with even the mildest cold. Not excruciating but definitely pretty sore. I'd get it checked out if it hasn't happened before, but I'd say yes, it could well be a result of a cold.

prettyraindrops · 07/03/2023 19:03

@pastaandpesto I've had a lot of colds/viruses lately (thanks kids) so maybe it could be a gland, are they usually very tender? I'll give it a couple of days x

Oh sorry you said it becomes tender. X

I'd recommend just going to see your GP as soon as you can, to put your mind at rest. I'm sure it's much more likely to be an infected cyst or a swollen lymph node, but you'll only worry if you leave it.

prettyraindrops · 07/03/2023 19:47

I'll book an appointment. I've really worked myself up worrying 😢

I get this exactly when I have a cold, it’s gland swollen

prettyraindrops · 08/03/2023 10:54

It feels slightly less painful today but I've had a feel and there's a lump Sad is that likely to be a gland or cyst?

When I get a swollen gland in my armpit I can feel is as a physical lump.

You should of course get it checked out, but don't worry unnecessarily!
