PMT - worse during peri? Feel like I’m going mad

Just that really. My mood, self esteem and patience are all on the floor and I’ve got such bad brain fog I feel once removed from reality. I feel like this for 3 or 4 days a month on cycle days 26-1, and then it eases as my period arrives fully. Last month my period came 5 days early unexpectedly.

I’m 39. Any words of advice or solidarity? I feel like if I go to the doctor I’ll be fobbed off. I’ve been taking St John’s wort for 2 months but it hasn’t made a difference

Im same . I feel like hell for a week before and crap all through my period. It’s like someone took my lid off and released the energy - I’m flat emotionally until my period is over.
monthly nightmare! Hoping it will pass

Yes, mine got worse and it was already bad. They do try and fob you off with antidepressants, but to be fair they are a possible treatment for PMS (per RCOG guidelines), just not for menopause (NICE guidance). So, if you have other menopause symptoms then as you are under 45 they may test your Follicle Stimulating Hormone levels to see if they are high, which can indicate perimenopause. Worth asking for HRT if you want to try it.

Thanks for your replies

I’ve had a large glass of wine tonight, which I know is counter productive, however it has taken the edge off

I’m making a record of my symptoms and mindset/mood over the course of a month to see if there are any trends to show the doctor. So totally sick to the back teeth of being on this emotional rollercoaster
