Colposcopy referral after 3 high risk hpv samples

Hi,
I’ve just received a letter about my recent smear saying I’ll be referred for a colposcopy procedure.
I have been having yearly smears for the past 3 years due to hpv being found in my sample but no abnormal cells.
Each year it’s shown up as the same thing,
new letter says high risk hpv found in my sample but that cells are normal.
Has anyone had anything similar and what was the outcome? I’m a natural worrier so just looking for some advice from others who have been through similar.

Update from me too (and background for new readers!)

Scheduled smear 2021 - HPV positive, no abnormalities, come back next year

2022 Smear - cell changes, referred for colposcopy / biopsy

This revealed CIN 2 changes, referred for LLETZ treatment

“Proof of Cure” exam / smear 6 mths later - no HPV, no further abnormalities, come back in 3 years!

I might actually pay for annual checks for peace of mind but hopefully this sequence of events will be reassuring that early detection / treatment can work!

Hello all, I had CIN 2 with LLETZ about 8 months ago. Starting taking AHCC and beta glucan supplements about three months ago.

Had a recent smear and came back as HPV negative. I'll assume it was the LLETZ procedure that removed the HPV but I am hopeful that the AHCC supplements have also helped. I'll be taking the AHCC every day until I've run out.

solice84 · 16/06/2023 15:18

Mine came back CIN1 so another year of waiting and worrying
I'd rather just get it over with now as I'd put every penny I have on the fact my body won't clear it like it didn't 13 years ago when I had cells removed

That’s great news. Im going to take beta glucan supplements from now, was going to get AHCC too but apparently they’re not necessarily classed as safe when pregnant. My appointment for treatment isn’t until after baby is born later in the year but I’m so hoping I can make a difference in that time naturally so as soon as baby is out il be on the AHCC too 🤞🏻more because I’m dreading the procedure more than anything else!

solice84 · 16/06/2023 20:29

I've tried the supplements but in all honesty I'm useless at remembering to take them but I must have spent £100's over the last few years on various vitamins etc in the hope of shifting it

fluffylampbear · 17/06/2023 12:48

@solice84 I know what you mean about forgetting to take them. I just keep them next to the kettle so every time I make a cup of tea I remember to take them.

solice84 · 20/06/2023 19:29

I've just been looking at the AHCC and it's soooooo expensive
The ones I took a while ago were pricey but I'm not sure I can justify the prices that they're coming up at now
I mean I'd pay anything if I knew it would work but to pay £60 for one bottle and it not work 🤷‍♀️ which it probably won't

fluffylampbear · 20/06/2023 19:39

@solice84 I agree it is expensive and a gamble. I think someone upthread recommended the Time Health brand which is what I bought. I bought three x 120 caps and it was about £100, there may have been a discount. A lot of money I realise, I was just desperate to try to actually clear the virus for once. My recent smear was HPV negative, so I am not sure if I cleared it or the tablets helped. I'll keep taking until they are all gone.

Justputitdown · 20/06/2023 19:43

I had HPV show up for 3 years and had 2 colposcopies in that time which didn't show abnormal cells. The last annual smear I had was clear.

Like you, I was worried but you really shouldn't be. They are so good at detecting abnormal cells that even if they were worrying, they'd remove them. I guess what I'm saying is that since you're under such close management anyway they're not suddenly going to find untreatable cervical cancer. This is what my doc told me anyway.

solice84 · 20/06/2023 19:53

@fluffylampbear if you've had the lletz already it was probably that . I'm just resigned to the fact I'll need treatment again
I just hope it goes as well as last time and then it pisses off for good
I think it was pregnancy that set it off again for me and i don't plan on getting pregnant again

fluffylampbear · 20/06/2023 19:59

@solice84 I think there's some scientific evidence high dose zinc can clear it (which is a lot cheaper than AHCC). Might be worth checking the evidence for this and trying a zinc supplement. That said I think zinc you do have to be a bit careful of taking high doses, so check it out and the potential dangers, and make a safe decision for yourself (maybe a lesser dose than they say!).

Hey I went for a colposcopy and they could see some changes so had to have a biopsy sample taken but had a letter back after a few weeks to say it was hpv only! X

Gayl12345 · 18/12/2023 16:25

Hi! May I ask if you had any success with AHCC?

GHxx · 19/12/2023 01:04

Just saw someone else comment so wanted to update on my situation in case anyone is reading this while awaiting a colposcopy. Went back today, a year after my smear while first pregnant, had another smear and biopsy’s done and I was sooo worried about them. It was so unbelievably FINE! She got me to cough each time as she was about to do it. I didn’t realise this until I had already coughed once and saw her put something in a little tub. It was like the tiniest scratch feeling, totally not the big hole punch sharp, agony feeling I was telling myself it was going to be all weekend 🤣
I think she said the waiting time for results right now is about 3 months which isn’t ideal when you’ve already waited a year but she didn’t seem worried so hoping I might not need it treated and it’s magically healed itself 🙈 I’m still breastfeeding or I would have started on the AHCC to try and get it cleared asap

solice84 · 19/12/2023 05:54

Won't know if the monumental amount of money I've spent on vitamins etc will have worked until my next smear in May
However , since taking them a Verucca I'd had over a decade and one under my thumn nail which I caught from trying to treat it have vanished after id given up trying the usual methods

veruccss are HPV too , who knew

Gayl12345 · 19/12/2023 08:09

@solice84 thank you so much for replying. That is really promising re your verruca. Everything crossed for you! I started AHCC yesterday. X
