Cervical polyps

I’ve had 3 in 3 years.
One came off during labour. The other removed by the GP and now I’m being sent to colposcopy for my current one. It’s just bleeding non stop. It’s not heavy but there is blood when I wipe. It’s been bleeding for over a week. Surely this isn’t good. I’ve read they shouldn’t return and most are benign. I’ve also been referred for an urgent ultrasound and had a blood test
Would like to hear from anyone who has had the same

Hi, did you get any answers in the end?
I’ve just found out I have a large polyp on my cervix and been referred to gynaecology. Interested to know what the whole process is?

Wish1 · 17/05/2023 17:31

Hey
I've also been told I have a cervical polyp and have a gynae appmnt in 2.5 weeks.
What was the princess? Hope you’re ok. X

Pommersy · 17/05/2023 19:50

Hello, I have exactly the same and have today been referred to a gynae as an urgent appointment. All very worrying but it looks as if I am in good company which is comforting. Wishing you all the best xx

diddy92 · 17/05/2023 20:44

thanks so much for your replies! It’s comforting to know there’s others with the same concerns. I’m still waiting to hear from a gynae, only had a letter stating I will hear from them if I’m accepted up to now. However following my internal swab results, the dr has booked me in for bloods to be taken and a face to face appointment after the results of those are back. So will keep you updated

hopefully we’ll all get answers very soon!

Pommersy · 18/05/2023 07:45

Yes please let us know how you go on diddy92. Hopefully all will be fine. I am finding it hard not to catastrophise - kids with no mother, bald head etc. It will be better knowing what’s what after seeing the gynae I think. Waiting and imagining can be dreadful x.

Hi all I had a very large polyp pinky finger sized In 2019. Hanging off my cervix. It must have been there a while but tucked above my cervix then popped downwards.

I had it removed privately in a 20 minute procedure where it was cauterised off with local anaesthetic. I only went private because I made myself so ill with anxiety. If I grew another I wouldn't and would understand the process more and that they are common esp in peri Meno (40s)
It was an easy and pain free procedure, and minimum bleeding afterwards. I completely understand the anxiety I was a wreck particularly as mine was so large. It was a fibroepitheral polyp type. I keep worrying about growing another and already been checked twice thinking I could feel the start of one but it's scar tissue
It all came back benign and fine

@spidernet99 @diddy92 @Pommersy
Thank you for sharing your experience/journey- it’s so reassuring to hear that there’s so many positive stories.
I have been so anxious since finding out yesterday and still have a 2 week wait to see my Gynae.
I’m not sure what to expect and as some of you have said I’m imagining every possible outcome/worst case scenario.
I had this scan as I’m about to start IVF and now I don’t know what will happen and whether it’ll set me back.
I'm really annoyed it wasn’t picked up earlier as I had 2 trans vaginal scans per month for 6 months during ovulation induction last scan was September last year.
I know it could have grown after September but I refuse to believe this for some reason.
wishing you all the best of health and speedy recoveries. ❤️

Pommersy · 18/05/2023 22:20

Thank you Mrstiggywinkle44 for explaining how quick and hopefully painless the removal is. I’m so glad it turned out to be okay. Unfortunately the doctor has put me on the ‘two week pathway’ to see the gynae so I am very worried it is something far more sinister than a simple polyp. Besides myself with worry.

Pommersy · 18/05/2023 22:24

Sorry just seen your post @Wish1 . It’s great that you have had trans vaginal scans so recently though and all was well then. I am wishing you the best of luck and you will be in brilliant hands and hopefully will be able to start your IVF very soon. My last smear was 10 years ago. I think I am probably a cautionary tale x

Wish1 · 18/05/2023 22:39

@Pommersy This is how I felt, I was only told yesterday during the scan they found a polyp.
how I grew the polyp in 8 months is beyond me.
haven’t been able to grow a baby after all these years of trying but no worries I’ll just grow extra skin. 👍🏻
I think our appmnt will be on the same week as I’m also on the 2 week pathway I think as appmnt is in 2 weeks.
Hope it goes well for you. X

Sending love . They do this for most growths including polyps Hun, I'm sure it will be ok but I understand the anxiety. Hugs xxx

Mine came out of no where too. My consultant told me sometimes it's blocked follicles on the cervix that cause them. Sending love to you also xxx

Wish1 · 18/05/2023 22:48

@Mrstiggywinkle44 Thank you!
Im hoping it can be taken out quickly and easily without needing to break the bank.
And also hoping to start the IVF process asap without anymore god damn setbacks.

If someone told me the start to my 30’s would be this awful I’d have prepared myself better.
Thank you for sharing your journey with us and giving us hope. Xx

Pommersy · 18/05/2023 23:18

I just wanted to say how lovely you all are and how invaluable it is to be able to speak to someone (even if we are strangers). @Mrstiggywinkle44 thank you for your hope as @Wish1 says and your calm information and @Wish1 I have everything crossed for this just to be a tiny annoying bump in the road for you and everything will be well. Thank you for being my polyp gynae appointment twinsy too! Lots of love x

Pommersy · 09/06/2023 19:27

Hello @Wish1 I just wondered how your consultant polyp app has gone. Mine said she thought it looks okay (although waiting for biopsy). Removal was completely painless. Thank you for letting me know this @Mrstiggywinkle44 . Really swift and pain free removal. Xx

@Pommersy Hey 🙋🏻‍♀️
Yay! That’s great news for you.
My appointment could really have been a phone call if I’m honest.
We had seen the consultant and he said I’ll need a physical examination to ensure it was a polyp, to determine how big it was and where it’s located.
If it is a polyp and is small enough they’ll remove it on that day however if it’s too big, located higher up etc then they’ll refer me for surgery.
He then told me that I might as well go for the embryo trial and on that day they can do the examination and remove if needed.
Im now supposed to wait until my period (next month) and call them and they’ll book it in.
so I’m just waiting now and hoping this polyp doesn’t grow.
Honestly so frustrating, I feel like I’m going from pillar to post and the consultant we had I think was a trainee so he’s just making things up as we go 😔 X

Pommersy · 10/06/2023 16:46

@Wish1 that must be so frustrating! Also potentially good news though that it might be removed and the embryo trial begun quickly. I bet you can’t wait to get your period now. You must be so fed up of waiting. Big hugs and hopefully all will be well. It will just be a pesky small polyp that can be whipped out without you noticing and the fertility treatment begun. Xx

Wish1 · 10/06/2023 23:03

@Pommersy Thank you Angel 🫶
Do you know what was even more frustrating I had just finished my period 2 days before the appointment and could have actually had that examination (I think it’s supposed to be within 10days of your period) but they didn’t have any appointments so now have to wait for my period.
I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it was just a mistake on the US scan although that’s probably just wishful thinking.
how are you getting on with your journey? Xx

Melepee · 23/07/2023 20:59

Hi, I’m just curious to know how quick of was to book privately?

Melepee · 23/07/2023 21:00

May I ask the size of your polyps? Particularly the one you had in pregnancy.
