Fibroid advice

embarrassingquery · 06/02/2023 22:26

I had a scan last week following pelvic pain and irregular periods. Results came back saying I have some fibroids. Now waiting for my gp to ring. I've googled (I know, bad idea) and it appears there are various ways to get rid of them. I'd rather avoid surgery - or at least surgery where I'm cut open- has anyone got any experiences they can share.
I've already asked about a hysterectomy (appreciate that is surgery) and it's a no (even though I do not plan on having any more DC) as apparently im too young at 39
Any experiences / advice much welcomed

This is a good thread, there are non surgical options.

Don't let them fob you off for years while you suffer and they get worse.

I have fibroids but other than heavy periods they don't cause me too much bother. They are very common and will apparently shrink as I get older. So I'm not going to do anything about them. But of course that's different if you are in pain... I think they are quite a lot of options but don't feel you have to go for the drastic ones - a hysterectomy is a big operation!

Not the exact same situation, but I had scan in my mid 30's showing 3x small fibroids. I was TTC and had a hysteroscopy to check the exact shape/size/location of them. I don't know if they do that test if not TTC though, but worth asking if they won't do a hysterectomy- then what are the next steps to stop the pain?

I have two quite large fibroids and had an ablation a few years ago due to seriously heavy periods and hardly bleed at all anymore

The fibroids were only about 1cm each and all tests showed they had no impact on fertility. Unfortunately though, I TTC 13yrs, lost 3 and had multiple rounds of IVF. DH and I had fertility tests, and everything came back normal. In fact my egg count was higher than average for my age! The only advice 1 fertility consultant could give was that I had 'old eggs'. I was 32 at that time 😕
