Hysterectomy in elderly

Hi,

My mum is 75. She recently visited a gynecologist and was advised the urine bag coming down.

She was suggested to do a vaginal hysterectomy as due to her age it's likely that at some point uterus might also come down.

Any suggestions if hysterectomy is the only option.

Did anyone else had a similar experience?

Thanks

Worried daughter.

Did they discuss other options at the appointment?

One doctor suggested surgery. Another mentioned about a ring

My (now 92) mum has a pessary ring for the exact same issue. She’s had this for about 10 years, and has to have it swapped out every 4/5
months or so. The medical advice she had at the time when she asked if hysterectomy was an option was that the surgery was too high a risk at her age (she also has a heart condition). Hope your mum is doing okay.

Yes she had the surgery and got the uterus removed. She is doing good now. After the surgery the doctor said that the wall of the uterus was thickening and good she did the surgery as there was a very high risk of cancer if she hadn't had done the surgery
