Brown discharge between periods since having baby

I’m waiting on an appointment with the GP to pick their brains on this, but just wondering if anyone else has experienced similar.

I had an elective section back in August and then had PP bleeding for about 5 weeks after, then went straight into a period.

The next period I had after that and all since have always been on time and seem a lot lighter and much less painful than they were before pregnancy, but from day 6 onwards until a few days after ovulation, I have dark brown discharge and it’s so frustrating! It’s as though my body can’t quite get rid of everything from my period.

After ovulation, it goes back to normal discharge until my next period when it happens again - not sure if my hormones are all messed up still or if it’s something more sinister.

Has anyone else had this?

Yes. I had these symptoms for five years after my second C-section and it was a C-section scar defect, otherwise known as a niche/isthmocele.

Hopefully it’s not this for you, but just to be aware this might be a possibility. I went to three different specialists before diagnosis and was fobbed off several times by doctors who told me it was hormonal and normal (it wasn’t, you know your body and if it’s not feeling right push for investigations). I had it repaired by laparoscopic surgery as it caused secondary infertility for me (have since had my third baby following the repair).

did you find you only had the discharge after your period ended up until ovulation?

Yes - Following the section, my periods were much lighter, would stop for a day or two, then I’d have brown discharge until I’d ovulated (we were trying for a baby at the time so I was tracking everything). Basically my womb couldn’t ‘clear itself out’ properly following my period due to the niche.
