I was why?

dementedpixie · 09/01/2023 17:15

I tried it years ago. Bled a lot and put on a lot of weight. Gave up after the 2nd injection

Boredof2020 · 09/01/2023 17:17

I was on it for about 20 years. I personally never had any problems. I stopped when I got to 50

mumonthehill · 09/01/2023 17:21

I am on it too and have been for a number of years. I have had all my children. I do not have any issues with it. I suffered from awfully heavy periods, pmt and got awful hormonal spots every month and having it means i have none of these issues. I know it does not suit everyone but has been fine for me.

Catdaft · 09/01/2023 17:27

I was on it years ago. It made me gain a stone and it took me 2 years to concieve after stopping it. The only good thing was I never got periods.

longtompot · 09/01/2023 17:51

I'm on it, have been for two years. It was meant to help with heavy periods but for me it hasn't. I am now waiting for a DEXA scan to check my home density due to length of time on it and my age, 51.

anx12345 · 09/01/2023 18:13

I'm just worried about going on it the side effects it's to stop my periods

There's no guarantee it will stop them. In my case I bled all the time.

The cerazette mini pill and the mirena coil both stopped my periods.

frenchie4002 · 09/01/2023 20:36

I was on it for 3 years before having dc and going on it again next week. Had no periods at all and minimal, temporary side effects.

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 09/01/2023 20:44

I was on it for 14 years. I had possibly 5 full periods and some bleeding if I was due an injection and was very tired eg Christmas holidays! Then I went on the implant which I was told was the same hormones. I bled around 20 days each month. I really didn't want to make up all the ones I had missed so I went private to have the implant taken out and be straight back on the depo. I will now have it until I hit menopause and probably until they are sure I am not fertile any more. It just worked for me.

I was on it for a few years to manage heavy periods. It did the job but after a couple of years i started getting migraines and came off it. I would have stayed on it if i hadn't started getting migraines

Cotswoldmama · 09/01/2023 21:12

I was on it from age 17 to 26, I came off as it can take a while for fertility to return to normal and I knew I'd want to start trying for children at 28. I had no side effects at all apart from having no periods. I didn't gain any weight at all and my skin/moods etc all the same. I loved it, I'm not on it now as it can also thin your bones if you're on it for too long so I've switched to the copper coil.

Gingerkittykat · 09/01/2023 21:23

I love it. I had my first injection 9 months ago to control my erratic perimenopausal bleeding (my last 2 periods before starting on it lasted 38 and 51 days).

I've not stopped bleeding completely but my periods are very light and last 2 days, I don't get horrible PMT mood swings and spots but I still get tender breasts.

I've not had any negative side effects.

I wish I had it years ago!

anx12345 · 10/01/2023 13:23

It's mostly the tender breast that do it for me there so painful 2 weeks before I'm due
