Vagifem plus Ovestin

I'm 45 and have perimenopause. My gynae said I have vaginal atrophy and has prescribed both Vagifem and Ovestin for two weeks straight, then 2 times a week for two months. She said they are fine to take together (inserted at different times).

It seems like a lot of strong meds at once to me and I've never used either, should I try one first and then see how I get on??

Firstly to reassure you, these are topical oestrogen preparations that only work where they are put, they don't absorb into your body and they really aren't strong medications. I read somewhere (probably on here) that if you used one of them for a year you'd only be taking less than one single dose of HRT.

If you want to try just one of them first, it depends on your symptoms. If it's all internal use the Vagifem. If you also have external discomfort go for Ovestin.

But if your gynae has prescribed both it should be fine to use both.

Im 70, havent had sex for years. I know I have V atrophy. Im considering taking a lover, but am worried about having rewarding sex for both of us, so Im holding him off.
I started Vagifem Blue 5 days ago...too soon to tell I guess, but just a gentle finger stung the entrance. Im thinking of using a bit of Ovestin on the outer/labia area, at same time.
My question is this - would I be 'overdosing' on estrogen, thus potentially having side effects I may not have otherwise had. I dont want to trial and error if I can avoid it.
I would use even less than a pea size. Has anyone used both? What outcome?
thanks ladies
