Hysterectomy by laparoscopic instruments

Has anyone had a hysterectomy using laparoscopic instruments?

Did they use your tummy button for the gas?

Or anything else into the tummy button?

I am having ovaries, fallopian tubes, womb and cervix removed hopefully without a large open cut

The reason I am asking is that I have an extremely INNY tummy button and have had 2 operations that they filled the gas via there and the staples were very hard to get out afterwards and it got quite sore and inflamed

So just wondered if it would be the same entry point again even though the last 2 operations were on my stomach and gall bladder so higher up iyswim

How was your recovery?

Thank you

I had a laparoscopic hysterectomy.
They did use tummy button for entry for something, had stitches not staples.

Recovery was fine, I was tired out for a while but was walking kids to school within a week.
Hard to remember not to pick heavy things up etc.
Pain for a few days that was totally manageable with pain meds.
Best thing I ever did, hope it goes well for you

Hopefully your tummy button incision will only be about 1cm in size. The uterus etc are disconnected from the top, then they remove it through your vagina before they stitch you back up. You’ll usually just have 3 or 4, half to 1cm incisions on your abdomen and the stitches at the top of your vagina where they disconnect your uterus and cervix.

There is always a small possibility that they need to convert from laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery to open but this is rare but they should mention it to you.

Yes they would need to put a port through your belly button. I don't ever see staples used in this type of surgery, usually dissolvable stitches are used.

Thank you so much for the replies

Yes I have been told that it might need to be open operation but that would be decided on the day but the surgeon really hopes to do it without

Ok thanks for info about my tummy button

I don't mind the other cuts elsewhere on my tummy

Thank you for good wishes and info about recovery
