Periods starting after 4 years on Mirena (hopefully it's still in!)

I'm on my second mirena and it's been in 4 years to the day (I checked earlier).

I am now having a second 'heavy' period, having had pretty much no periods up until now with my first mirena and this one. The last was about 6 weeks ago which I put down to stress, so they're not exactly regular.

I'm going to ring the docs for advice tomorrow anyway but has anyone had something similar? I am 48, so could be peri/menopausal related. Or might it have fallen out? 😯

it will be helpful for your GP to know if you can still feel the threads so worth checking if you can before you speak to them. Periods can resume at any point with mirena, especially if you are perimenopausal, but if it’s still in place sometimes it just needs replacing earlier than planned and this can sort out the bleeding again.

Thank you flowers, good point I will have a furtle around before I ring. It's good to know it might just need replacing early. If I want to use it for contraception, I have to have a third one anyway as I won't be 50.

I had this, they replaced with a new one and after a about 5 months I'm back to no periods again thankfully, I guess they just need changing more frequently sometimes.
