2 week referral for pelvic US

Hello
Context: I have pretty severe health anxiety
History: am perimenopausal- periods got
closer together, then further apart, last 2 cycles have been 35 and 42 days
have now been bleeding for 3 weeks. GP said she would refer for routine pelvic US
Ended up in A&E over Christmas, with v heavy PV bleed. Collapsed, ended up in resus.
Spent night in gynae ward. 2, thorough internal and external exams- NAD. Was told I’d be called back “in a few days” for a pelvic US
Just had call (OH took it) to say I was on the 2 week referral pathway for a pelvic US
I’m now terrified, although I realise that it’s only to rule out cancer
Can anyone reassure me pls? The Dr seemed to think it was likely hormonal, but I can’t take my mind away from the 2 week referral. I’m worried they are not sharing something with me 😭

thank you

I was referred on the same pathway for the same issue just over a year ago. It will be to rule it out. If it helps, the consultant I saw told me that 9 out of 10 people he sees on the 2wk referral are given the all clear, as was I. They are unlikely to be hiding anything from you, just following procedure. Try not to worry, easier said than done I know.

I had similar investigations a few years ago for periods lasting up to three weeks and spotting between periods. Sometimes it was difficult to tell when the period ended and the spotting began and vice versa! I was 46. When the hospital letter turned up a few days later with 'urgent referral' in the title, my stomach sank like a stone. But everything was fine and the consultant was very reassuring. Hope all goes well for youFlowers

Thank you
its been an utterly horrendous year for my family. Serious Illness and 4 deaths. I can’t take my mind off to any other place
I realise I’m being irrational, but can’t help it. Stupid brain!

Just an update, in case anyone else happens upon this thread
I had a pelvic and TV ultrasound today and I have fibroids and a haemorrhagic ovarian cyst. Nothing terrible
Gynae are going to formulate a plan going forward and I feel so much better, psychologically ❤️

I realise this is an old thread but going through something similar myself. Reassuring that the 2 week path way has been so reassuring for people. I found out this morning I’ve been put on it and I’ve been an immovable puddle of tears ever since.
