Missed period - perimenopause?

Coffeeismylife · 23/12/2022 07:11

I'm 42 and over the last few years have had symptoms of perimenopause, but my periods have been really regular. Cycle is always 25 days. I also have the copper coil.

I'm now on day 48 with no period, aside from pregnancy this has never happened before in my life. I've had intermittent spotting on and off over the last 2 weeks but it's light and inconsistent. I have also had inconsistent ovarian twinges, feels a bit like ovulation twinges. No PMS symptoms. Pregnancy tests are negative.

Could this be another stage in perimenopause? I'm not overly concerned but it feels so unusual and at the back of my mind I'm afraid of a pregnancy that hasn't been picked up (6 negative tests over the last 2 weeks so unlikely). Can anyone reassure me, or share a similar story?

TIA

Sounds like it, but only your doctor could tell you if it's something else.

This is me. My last 2 cycles were 35, then 42 days (and I have been bleeding for 3 weeks straight now)

I am 56. Missed 2 periods and then had one this month.

h78 · 24/12/2022 19:05

I've just started today with a cycle of 52 days. I'm 44. Not sure why, could be peri or it could be that I've had a stressful few weeks.

ETgo · 24/12/2022 19:15

@Sleepybear1234 can I ask which home menopause tests you've done please?

I've had numerous symptoms over the past year and periods a little irregular but I've now missed two periods and if I miss another two I will be contacting gp.

I'm only 41 though so I'd like to go armed with as much info as possible! The brain fog in particular is really starting to affect my work but I think due to my age nothing will be done.

Winemygoodenemy · 24/12/2022 19:29

I am the exact same. 42 done 4 pregnancy tests all negative. My boobs hurt and I feel I have cramps, grumpy and tired. My stomach also feels swollen. But nothing due yet. Take the pill religiously.

been under stress for quite a few weeks and my mum died suddenly. Hopefully it’s stress related. Boyfriend is a bit worried that I am pregnant but also worried that I might be peri as we were hoping to try for a baby in next 6 months. Nature might have beaten us to it.

off to drs if it doesn’t appear in new year.

@ETgo I have used the labo quick from amazon and the one step also from amazon went a bit mad thinking I will try a few brands lol. I also feel like this started for me at around age 40 periods got closer together and pmt much worse x mine still hasn't arrived but I have cramps like when I was a teen and noobs are killing me xx I also keep crying at everything in sight xx

Sleepybear1234 · 24/12/2022 20:16

Boobs not noobs x

Sleepybear1234 · 24/12/2022 20:18

@ETgo also the brain fog was particularly bad for me at yiur age but that seems to have tapered off and been replaced with rage lol what fun x

Sleepybear1234 · 24/12/2022 20:19

@h78 I have also been extremely stressed last few months so maybe when you get to our age any stress just completely stuffs your period up xx

Sleepybear1234 · 24/12/2022 20:21

@Winemygoodenemy so sorry for your loss hopefully its just gone missing for a while due to the stress this has happened to me once about 18 months ago and then went back to normal after that until now xx

h78 · 25/12/2022 03:45

@Sleepybear1234 yes I definitely feel your periods are affected more going into 40's. My mum stopped at 47 so maybe I'm following in her pattern. I've also had backache, so taking ibuprofen. I've read it can delay ovulation, hence the late period.
