Periods after IUD (Mirena Coil)

Hi mum's

I recently had a Laparoscopy surgery done to remove endometriosis tissue under my c-sec scar. I agreed to have a Mirena Coil fitted to prevent any excess tissue growth.

I wanted to ask what periods are like after it's fitted? Did they stop or continue regularly each month?

It's worrying knowing it could be on and off bleeding at any time as that makes it harder leaving the house without a pantyliner or always having to wear a pad.

It was fitted on the 16th Dec and my next period is due in the next 2-3 days would this period come? Or stop?

Some women are lucky enough to have the first one or two periods then stop altogether. I never stopped spotting and bleeding for pretty much the whole year I had it in, and I battled for months with the nurses to have it removed!
DSis was one of the lucky ones & I had a friend who never had periods. I did have fibroids & endometriosis but my friend also had endometriosis but it worked for her. Hopefully you will be in the ‘no periods’ camp.

I had nothing for months and now get occasional 'surprise' periods that last about a day and can barely be described as such. I just wear a liner if I'm going out or if I get cramps. Hope all goes well for you!

I’ve had my Mirena in for 2 years. After the initial settling in period of about 6 weeks I’ve never had a period since. I occasionally get a small amount of pink discharge, but it’s barely enough for a pantyliner. Love it and will be getting it until menopause.

@Ostryga do you get the discharge often? I've had the coil since august and overall I'm getting on well with it but I had a bit of pinky discharge today & wasn't sure if it was normal. I used to get occasional spotting on the pill too. I was thinking of giving the gp a ring next week just to have a chat with them.

I've not had any periods since having it fitter (about 10 months), no spotting and it's stopped my ovary pain from PCOS

I had regular-ish light periods whilst on the Mirena :)

I've had no periods at all and this will be the 13th year I've had a Mirena in situ. (I have had them replaced!)

I had spotting for about 6 weeks then no more periods ever. My first Mirena went in in 1994, so I was period free right through menopause.
