Hair loss after stopping the pill?

I went on the contraceptive pill a few months after having my baby. I was on it for around 6 months then switched to the copper coil in July. For the past 2 months my hair has been shedding heavily, I dread washing it as so much comes out, and it's really dry and I've got little short bits all over.
Could this be down to having stopped the pill? Has anyone else had this?
