Breast cancer ...

My friend has been diagnosed with breast cancer.
I'm obviously worried sick but don't want to keep asking too many questions.
She has a 7cm tumour removed and all her lymph nodes
A scan after operation has shown it has spread to chest wall.
She is due to have chemotherapy.
What stage of cancer is this?
Is she going to be okay?

I'm not a doctor but it's not great if it's spread. How she does will depend on how she responds to treatment. Good luck. I hope your friend makes a full recovery.

7cm is on the large side for a breast tumour, and if it has spread to the lymph nodes and chest wall then that is probably Stage 3. Stage 4 is when it spreads to other parts of the body and becomes incurable.

The bigger the tumour and the more local spread there is, the more chance there is statistically that it will return and spread elsewhere further down the line. However, when with Stage 3 primary can and do recover and survive.

Do you know what type of breast cancer she has as that is also very significant in terms of treatment options. Some types have a lot more treatment options than others.

Sorry this should say women with Stage 3 primary....

It hasn't spread to any of her organs.
Only her chest wall
They told her they were only taking 5 lymph nodes but when she woke from op they had taken all her lymph nodes
She told me her treatment plan has now changed since scan showed it was in her chest wall.

I'm not sure I didn't want to ask too much as she was getting emotional.
She just said that she needed chemotherapy starting next week.
She's had her op already and lymph node removal
She's only 35
Two kids
Youngest is 1
That's how she found lump -through breast feeding
