Spotting between periods and blood after BM

For a few months, I’ve had spotting for quite a few days in the lead up to my period - so much so that I’m not really sure when my actual period starts anymore. I also notice that when I have a bowel movement (particularly if I strain a bit 😳) there’s sometimes red blood from my vagina on the tissue when I wipe.

I don’t know why but I just dismissed this as possible perimenopause changes (I’m 43) but something prompted me to Google it tonight and now I’m terrified. I don’t think I have any other perimenopause symptoms (apart from tendonitis in a couple of places when I’ve never had that before).

Many years ago I had treatment for cervical erosions - the symptoms then were bleeding after sex. I don’t get that symptom now which is why I think I’ve just been dismissing it. I’m going to make a Dr’s appointment but I’m so scared - all I can think is if it’s something awful, I could’ve prevented it getting worse by being seen ages ago. I know there will be people with stories like that where it didn’t turn out well but can anyone please reassure me?

Hi
I've come across you post because I am experiencing the same. Did you ever get to the bottom of what was causing this? I too am worried about it! Many thanks Smile

Same
I already know I have pre-cancerous cells but the 1st stage and they are leaving them to see if they clear up before treating
That was in May
Surely it can't have progressed that quickly ?

Hi. Yes, I had a scan and it turned out to be adenomyosis - basically some cystic areas on the muscles of the uterus. I was told it’s nothing to worry about unless I get heavy bleeding. My gp put me back on the pill and that has stopped the spotting.

As I mentioned I’ve had pre cancerous cells and erosions in the past and had them lasered. If you’re worried and are still getting bleeding, I would say it’s perfectly acceptable to go back to your doctor and ask for them to refer you for treatment. Hope you get on ok. X

@Fudgingit85 thanks so much for replying! I had a colposcopy and was normal. I then had a transvaginal scan and the sonographer said everything was clear apart from adenomyosis. So I'm waiting my gp appointment to discuss my results. So your spotting and after BM spotting was all put down to adenomyosis? Did you ever have any post-sex bleeding? Despite the results I'm stressing that they haven't found the cause. I presume they were satisfied that having adenomyosis was causing your symptoms? From what I've read it suggests heavy and painful periods but luckily I don't really suffer from those! So still feeling a bit wobbly!

Lollyl88 · 28/01/2024 08:31

@solice84 I presume they have said they will check this May? As in a year later? If you're still worried maybe make an appointment and see if they can retest 👍

Fudgingit85 · 28/01/2024 08:32

Yes they seemed happy that it was the adenomyosis causing it. I don’t get painful periods at all. They can be a little heavy for a day or so but nothing dramatic really. They said if I get pain or really heavy periods to go back. I’ve had no post sex bleeding either - I only ever had that when I had erosions.

That's correct
I actually don't believe the bleeding is coming from my cervix however
It's not just a little bit when I wipe it's quite a bit
I'm due on tomorrow but since Friday I've had a bleed with every bm
Also a very slight bleed mid cycle

solice84 · 28/01/2024 08:37

I've had this before years ago but blamed the pill as it stopped as soon as I stopped taking it
Im not on any hormonal contraception now

Lollyl88 · 28/01/2024 08:42

@solice84 I'd go back to my GP and say that you're still concerned. That way you can see if you can get a scan/examination 🙂

Lollyl88 · 28/01/2024 08:44

@Fudgingit85 thanks so much for sharing your experience. I know they will probably offer the pill but I'm a similar age to you and previously the pill hasn't agreed with me but might give it a go to just see if it helps things! Thanks for sharing - always reassuring to hear of others experiences 😊

solice84 · 28/01/2024 08:45

To add, I also don't think it's cervix related as sex doesn't cause any bleeding
But I'll go the doctors

@solice84 How did you get on in the end?
