Mammogram - asked to go back again for more tests

Well just that really and trying not to panic, has anyone had similar?
My first mammogram was about 10 days ago and I got a letter through the post today asking to go back Friday to repeat the mammogram as inconclusive. It says I will need another mammogram and maybe an ultrasound and maybe a biopsy. Well I don’t want to google but my head says that’s something to at least worry about I guess?
It just says don’t wear talc but on another thread here it says don’t use deodorant but it doesn’t say that anywhere on my notes so should I not?
I’m 52 and can’t feel any lumps myself but this is my first mammogram. I’m hoping then if it is the worst it may be early? Or maybe I shouldn’t be thinking about it at all until Friday?

I had this last year - I had to have the biopsy- they said it was something called calcification which is changes in your breast which can go on to be cancerous - or alternatively may be OK. Mine wasn't anything of particular concern at the time but they have recalled me again after a year for further mammogram . I'm waiting for results on that at the moment . I think the information I had last year says it's only a very small chance it will find something of concern.

From memory I think it said no talc, roll on deodorant is OK but it may have suggested not the spray on stuff . Or I may have read that elsewhere .

I never wear talc, deodorant, creams or antiperspirant.
As long as you have had a shower you will be clean.
You could always put on deodorant afterwards.

Try not to worry too much. You are more likely to be recalled after your first mammogram because they don't have any previous images to compare the current ones to. Some info here, it's on the Breast Cancer Now site but please don't let that worry you! It says that 4 women out of 100 will be recalled, and 3 of those will not have breast cancer.

Hope it all goes well and you get good news soon.

Well it’s 9am so I’ll lay off the deodorant until after I think! I sweat quite easily but would rather get a correct result, if that’s what this helps to do?!
I think it was the shock of opening a letter saying to come back, my mind went racing but I do try and live by there’s no point in worrying until there’s something to worry about! This sort of thing is testing me though!
Thank you for replying.

@tribpot thank you for that article, that’s reassuring and also made me feel a bit more ‘normal’ for being anxious. Thanks for taking the time to link it.

I was called back and was fine .

Janus · 28/11/2022 22:48

@Izzieloo thank you.

I was called back and it turned out to be calcification, probably as the result of a heavy fall when I landed on my front. Exactly the same happened to my friend's daughter. They implanted a tiny piece of metal in me to mark the spot so they know what it is on future mammograms. It is too small to set off alarms at airports!

Janus · 28/11/2022 23:29

@Jellybean23 that’s interesting, I have an 18 month old golden retriever that totally wiped me out on a walk about a year ago and I fell on my front, maybe it’s all his fault!! Thanks, I’m going to tell myself it’s his fault for a few days anyway!

Thank you, they did find something and waiting for the results (backlog means it will be about 3 weeks) but most likely to be calcification too. I had the metal clip put in too which is a good idea, amazing what they can do now. Thanks for all the replies.

Fingers crossed for the all clear soon.

I had exactly the same, down to the titanium chip and then a three week wait. All was fine. Wishing you the very best!

Janus · 04/12/2022 14:22

Thank you! I think the thing is it’s really very small whatever it is so even if the worse it’s easy to get rid of. I was so afraid they were going to tell me they’d found a massive lump or something so I feel so less stressed knowing it’s very small.

You sound like me ☺ I felt fairly mellow about it right up till the day before then I got a bit wobbly. It's the not knowing - how might life be looking in a month etc etc. I didn't realise how anxious I was till I felt like a deflated balloon after I was reassured that all was well. I hope you're not too sore where the clip went in ( and core biopsy - did you have that?) Hugs 💐

Liveonmars · 04/12/2022 15:05

I was recalled after my first mammogram and it was fine. I was there less than 20 minutes - as said above, they have nothing to compare to so more first timers are recalled.

Janus · 05/12/2022 09:41

@ChristmasCrackler had some kind of biopsy not sure if it was deep core?! Did take quite a while to line me up properly and a couple of injections to numb me totally up. It was sore for the first 24-48 hours but feel much better now. So glad to have had it all done. I wonder if it is calcifications do you just stick to mammograms every 3 years?

ChristmasCrackler · 05/12/2022 19:06

I think so @Janus I think all the messing about like we had is more usual with the first mammogram (was my first as well) I really hope it's just normal breast changes for you as well. Statistics are on your side but it's very natural to wonder if you're the exception! As you rightly said though, whatever it is will have been caught early x

WeAllHaveWings · 05/12/2022 19:17

Another one who had the same after first mamogram this year. Biopsies on the day, metal marker put in and a week of worry waiting for my follow up appointment for the results. They called me an hour before my appointment to say if I hadn't left home don't bother, all was ok.

It is more likely to nothing rather than something, but it was still a worrying wait.
