Today I went for a cervical exam because I have been having extremely heavy periods, bleeding after sex and irregular bleeding between periods as well as a lot of excessive discharge.

The GP said she could see polyp on my cervix and referred me under the 2 week pathway. I’m now really worried.

I didn’t ask any questions as when she said two
week cancer pathway I was really taken aback.

can a GP usually tell the difference between a polyp and a cancerous growth?

has anyone had experience of this? I would like to hear your experiences good or bad please I’m really worried.

Please try not to worry too much. They put you on the 2 week cancer pathway to get you seen quicker to rule it out. My DH has just been through this when he couldn't swallow. Doctors on the Tuesday, camera down the throat on the Saturday. He has a hernia causing him to cough which has caused a tear in his oesophoghus. Its scary but hopefully all will be ok. Good luck

I had a polyp. They're actually not that uncommon. Most polyps are completely benign. I had it removed and that was that. Back to the regular schedule.

Anything that is out of the ordinary and MIGHT be cause for concern can be referred on 2ww pathway. I was recently referred and then removed once I’d seen the consultant who had no concerns. All the paperwork I had while I waited says that most 2ww turn out not to be cancer.

I have the same but my GP said she was "pretty sure" the polyp wasn't cancerous... I have a 5 month wait to be seen by gynae. I'm really worried I should be seen sooner.. I'm glad they're seeing you quickly.
