Abdominal open myomectomy - recovery?

Hi all

Just looking for some experiences from anyone who has an an open myomectomy?

Im due mine tomorrow for removal of a large fibroid - my surgeon had indicated recovery shouldn’t be too bad and recommended this instead of hysterectomy partly on that basis.

I’ve been googling though and now wondering just how bad it’s going to be? If anyone has any experiences to give me a rough idea I’d be very grateful.

Hi I’ve had this surgery, kept in the hospital 4 days post op with a catheter in place as you cannot move from your bed for at least 3 days post surgery. Strong painkillers for a couple of days- minimal movement and off work for a month. Hope all goes well

Thanks for replying!

I’ve been told max 2 nights and I will be up and walking after 24 hours. Starting to wonder about this

@Ridingladybugs I was told similar, I was shocked to find I had a catheter as they didn’t tell me this pre surgery- but I couldn’t really move for 3 days after so it made sense!
still the best decision I made, life changing and for the better
