Light periods and fertility issues - perimenopause or...?

I'm in my early-mid thirties and over the past couple of years my periods have become very light and watery.

The actual bleeding lasts a day and I only use about 2 normal pads a month. That's it! And the blood is pink, not red.

The cramps are very painful when they're just starting - more than previously (used to have heavier flow and red blood).

I have other hormonal symptoms (moody, dry skin/ acne, overweight), but GP said as my periods are regular they don't want to test me for anything and basically think I'm fine.

But I'm not getting pregnant. I've had fertility treatment - IVF over a year ago and a few rounds of IUI this year, which doesn't involve any meds, so I don't think it's meds impacting hormones.

As I'm TTC I'm concerned this is an issue but they don't want to investigate. GP said it's probably stress. It could be, but I'm wondering has anyone had similar and had any kind of tests or diagnosis?

How long is your cycle? Do you use opks?

AnotherRound · 21/11/2022 17:33

@Cuppasoupmonster Yes I get positive OPK's and my cycle is a normal length, 28-32 days.

It's just so weird that my period is so short and light. I feel like something must be going on but I do admit I am stressed and anxious too.

I don't want to worry you.

I was not TTC.

I have never had heavy periods but i guess since around covid they became very light. Abnormally light. But stilla clock work 28 day cycle.

I wasnt worried and didnt think it was worth a GP appt in covid when Drs were so busy, and i just thought how lucky I was. So many of my friends have issues with heavy periods, i thought i was lucky!

Early this year it was found that I have some tumors on my ovarys as well as a couple of cysts. They were benign.

I had an operation to removed them about 4 weeks ago, which went well but they had to be cut out whole (grapefruit size and tennis ball size) so I have a pretty big cut in my tummy similar to a cesarian.

I was unaware that very light periods were a symptom of this but apparently it was, I just didnt know and didnt do anything about it.

Maybe something to consider?

(My tumors were discovered when I unexpectedly got pregnant, so they didnt stop me concieving, but sadly my baby hasnt made it, but once they were discovered they caused me significant health issues so were removed urgently)

Thanks for the reply @nannyl that sounds horrendous, so sorry to hear it. I'm glad the op went well.

I have several scans each month for IUI so have a pretty good idea what is going on in my ovaries/ uterus - I get the occasional cyst but they assure me it's normal.

It's stories like yours that worry me though - everything seeming fine and then actually you find out it's not!
