Pelvic organ prolapse diagnosis

Hello
I suspect I have a pelvic organ prolapse, but I'm so nervous about going to the doctor for it. Can someone please tell me exactly what the GP will do during the exam? Is it just an internal exam or external exam too? And after this, can they refer straight to physio if needed or is one always referred to a gynaecologist?
I think knowing more might help me make thr appointment! Thanks

When I went to the GP with a suspected prolapse he had the briefest of peeps before declaring that he agreed and referring me for physio. Doctor was bizarrely coy and seemed to think it wasn't something he should be dealing with as a male GP.... which was a pity as if he'd actually examined me he would have presumably seen that I didn't have a prolapse at all but a large uterine polyp. Would have saved a lot of time and stress.
