Heterogeneous lesion and waiting biopsy results

Hi, I posted about a while ago due to ongoing symptoms over the last year, I have bled everyday for a year (pre menopause) bright red blood and clots, waited 5 months for a scan which detected something which they couldn’t determine either polyp or other it said.

last week back hip and pelvic pain escalated to the point where I couldn’t walk properly and I was haemorrhaging blood, I was admitted to hospital in the gynae ward. On the first day they attempted biopsy but too much blood so sent me for another scan as the consultant felt that the scanners could pin point it better than original scan.
Scan came back and they said my uterus is expanded mid to lower section by a heterogenous lesion, may be a pendulacated prolapsed submocous fibroid or a polyp on a stalk but they need to rule out cancer. They managed to take a biopsy the next day, I was in distres and crying not at the biopsy but because I had to walk from my hospital bed to get it done and in extreme pain. Morphine wasn’t even cutting it I just need whatever this is out!

i was discharged so on bed rest at home on various opioids I’ve signed for a hysterocopy plus polypectomy plus myomectomy depending what it is. My discharge letter says I’ve been booked for one but not given a date and no idea of how long just told I’m on emergency list. I’ve also been given tablets to slow the bleeding.

has anyone experienced similiar? How long does biopsy usually take and urgent hysterocopy? I’m really upset this has been left so long and has now escalated to this point.

No problem thehoundschicken I feel for you. Psyching up to go for an appointment is bad enough but to be in pain, show up and be waved away is just awful.

Is there a PALS group or is that your patient feedback point?

Could you ask to be taken in at short notice if there's a no show?

The missing biopsy is mystifying. GP any good at all? Could they chase?

💐💐

I had a hysto and biopsy on the 2nd of November - the results letter had a date of the 11th and actually arrived through my letterbox on the 19th.

Not sure why these things can't go out by Email.

thehoundschicken · 22/11/2022 21:02

Yeah that's it, it's mostly the wasted appointment , and no sign of when I'll get the procedure to solve this. I said when I initially signed the forms I would take any cancellation so hopefully that's already been noted.

I'm in Scotland so our version of pals is patient feedback, I've used them once before re my initial ultrasound and they were really helpful so here is hoping.

Thank you re the biopsy I hope yours turned out ok? I'm probably not giving that enough time however just an added worry. I'll chase up with GP end of week if no update.

HPFA - also how was your hysto?

I'm Scotland too - up North. Freezing here.

thehoundschicken · 22/11/2022 21:47

It's suddenly got so cold 🥶 probably the best time to be stuck at home for me I suppose!

@thehoundschicken how are you now? Hope you're not still in pain and waiting.

thehoundschicken · 02/12/2022 08:56

Hi, unfortunately still waiting , I've got a complaint in at the moment with lots of points being investigated but all I want is to know when my treatment will be and my biopsy results and then to reassure me cancer has been ruled out but taking ages 😭

started bleeding heavy again over the last few days real bad just going to try taking the acid again if I can pull myself out of bed!

Not in as much pain as I had been so that's a plus! Thanks for asking

I'm so sorry that you are still waiting - I do hope that they have a very good explanation for the lack of care 🙄

That hysteroscopy was meant to be imminent - I'm feeling very angry on your behalf.

Hope nurse cat is keeping you company 🐱

thehoundschicken · 02/12/2022 14:38

Thank you, I know just in despair 😞

ask eve the charity phoned me today and advised me strongly to go back into hospital due the heaviness of bleeding but I just can't again, I said i would phone my gp which I have and he agreed try the acid again, just worried about risk of clots on it with not moving. I asked about my biopsy he has checked and results definitely not on system yet 😕 so it's even worse that cancer hasn't been ruled out.

Aww she is, such a baby! Hope your doing ok thanks for checking in

No problem at all. Has the gynae clinic lost the biopsy tissue/ results? You'd begin to wonder at this stage.

Very small potatoes in my case - on antibiotics now and have been sick since 11 November but minor stuff.

thehoundschicken · 02/12/2022 16:01

I know I did wonder but think it's either the back log or something is being investigated on it 😕 wouldn't be suprised if it was lost.

Oh no there is so much going about now specially after a couple of years of lockdowns and our immune systems aren't probably as used to fighting them off, I hope they kick in quick and you feel better soon.

@thehoundschicken I don't post on MN much, but found my login so I could reply. I have been through a similar experience recently with a mass in my uterus found on ultrasound and a very thick womb lining. I have had two rounds of biopsy - the second via hysteroscopy. They thought it looked like a giant polp and removed it. My biopsy results took 9 days to come back and I have hyperplaysia with no atypia. I'd rather not share too much on a public forum but if you want to PM me happy to share my experience. I hope you're ok.

thehoundschicken · 04/12/2022 14:58

Thank you @cleo29 sorry just getting round to posting again been heavy bleeding and Icombined with covid been exhausted! I've phoned gp again on Friday and results defo not back yet.

That would be fab I'll send you a message shortly thank you

HPFA - also how was your hysto?

@thehoundschicken

The hysto was fine, thank you.

I've now had two for post menopausal bleeding - the first one was pretty much pain free - the second was a bit more uncomfortable but manageable. So I've been very lucky. I've had worse experiences at the dentist, to be honest.

Biopsy came back "scanty and inactive" which apparently means "normal".

I now get a year off from further examination if there's a recurrence within that time. After that back I'll go for another one. Consultant has given me a vagifem prescription to try and stop it - probably desperate not to see me again!

Best wishes for your results
