If you had hair loss and low libido on mini pill - when did it stop?

Just that, really!

I had the Mirena coil for 5 years with no issues. When it ran out, DP and I were thinking about TTC, so I went onto the mini pill rather than have a new coil or other long-term contraceptive. I’ve been on desogestrel/Cerazette for the past six months and have generally felt rubbish - spotty skin, weight gain, miserable, non-existent libido, painful sex when we do have it, and my hair is falling out by the handful every time I wash it (which is every other day now it’s getting so greasy 🤨)

I’ve had enough and am stopping the pill and having the copper coil fitted later today - we’re rethinking TTC for a bit anyway because of the cost of living etc, and I just want a break from the hormones. If you had these issues on the mini pill, how long did it take for them to get better? The hair loss is particularly upsetting because it’s so visible.

TIA 💐

I had this issue when I had an undiagnosed thyroid issue, and again when my iron was low.
I think it would be worth speaking to a GP and requesting blood tests, thyroid issues can affect chances of conception.

Thank you, @BeingHeldAtHunPoint, thyroid issues hadn’t occurred to me. I hope you’re feeling better now. I’ve taken iron supplements previously, really must get back into a regular habit with those! Thank you again

How old are you? Those are all symptoms of peri menopause and the mini pill doesn’t contain oestrogen so if your oestrogen is becoming lower it will be more obvious than someone who takes the combined pill for example where it contains oestrogen. If you are 40 plus I would definitely investigate peri menopause as a reason and think about HRT - particularly internal oestrogen (Ovestin) for the painful sex etc.

I’m 29, @Afterfire. That’s a bit concerning, the nurse didn’t mention that when I spoke to her about coming off the mini pill.
