Bloody leg cramps!

I was woken twice last night with leg cramps. Once in my inner right thigh (that site is a bugger to release) and once in my left calf.

In recent years I have become prone to these cramps at night. I also cannot kneel easily any more, nor point my toes, as these positions cause almost immediate cramps in my feet.

As long as I can remember I have had the occasional nighttime cramp in my calf or foot, maybe once or twice a year. Either pregnancies or menopause triggered the increase in frequency and location. I'm not sure which, as one followed immediately on the heels of the others.

Is there anything I can do about this?

Members of my family have found that having an evening drink of tonic has helped with night cramps. Gin is obviously optional!

WashAsDelicates · 05/11/2022 11:51

Any particular type of tonic?

Massage & stretch of your legs, drink plenty of water during the day.

I do. Doesn't seem to make any difference.

Have you seen your GP? That would be my suggestion. Any other symptoms?

Is it the quinine in tonic?
I use a magnesium spray I rub into my legs. It’s bloody amazing stuff.

Go easy with the magnesium spray at first. I went in hard on first use and it hurt!! I had to wash it off

WashAsDelicates · 05/11/2022 17:22

I've never heard of magnesium spray! Do you apply it regularly, or only when you have a cramp?

You can also take a magnesium supplement.

Bananas are good for leg cramps too.

I tend to have a warning twinge when my cramps are going to kick off. Then I use it.
