9cm Ovarian Cyst 20 weeks Pregnant

I’m really hoping someone here can ease my anxiety a little as I’m worried sick.

When I had my first scan in pregnancy I was told I had a 4cm cyst and it was completely normal & nothing to worry about. I went for my 20 week scan last week and was told it was now at 9cm!!

The Sonographer at my 20 week scan took some images and sent me down to the pregnancy day unit so a Doctor could review them. He said he wasn’t sure what it is but ‘thinks’ it’s a Dermoid Cyst but has referred me for an MRI & sent the images to a Multi-Disciplinary team to review. I’m absolutely petrified it’s ovarian cancer.

has anyone had to go through this for a diagnosis of a ‘type’ of cyst?

Yes I had the same it was spotted during my first pregnancy. They decided to leave it alone until after I'd had my baby and then I had it removed with key hole day surgery. It was a fluid filled cyst about the size of a grapefruit. I was really scared as they weren't sure until it was removed exactly what it was, but it turned out to be fine. I went on to have another pregnancy and no further problems. Try not to worry - I hope you get answers quickly.

@Lonelyplanet - oh that’s so reassuring to hear! Thank you. Can I ask, we’re you also referred for and MRI etc? X

No I didn't get an mri, but it will be reassuring for you to have it checked out properly. I just had an ultrasound and met with a horrible consultant who was very dismissive of me. He told me there was a chance of cancer but unlikely and they couldn't do anything until I'd had my baby. However all turned out well; I really hope it does for you too.

@Lonelyplanet oh my god, that sounds like a horrible experience and I’m so sorry you had to go through that. Glad all turned out well in the end though.
