Prostap injections for fibroids

Been having so many abdominal pains and finally diagnosed with fibroids on bowel/bladder and advised to start this treatment. Has anyone had this? I'm worried as it will put me in a menopausal state but can't put up with the pain any longer :(

Hi, OP, I am on Prostap. It has made me menopausal but it's not too bad. I am mostly just hot, but I don't hate that - I was always cold before so it's a change. My kids can't believe mum who always complained how cold she is walking around in T shirts in November! Hope you get on with it OK.

I found it really helpful, don't look at the needle though!

@PandasAreBlackAndWhite it’s the only time I’ve ever had a nurse say to me, “you probably shouldn’t look at this needle” 🤣🤣 so I never have! Don’t find it too painful going in tho, luckily.

Thank you for your replies and positive stories. I'm having my first injection next!

Hope it goes well. I’ve had two I barely felt at all, and one that didn’t hurt going in but that place on my tummy was tender for 48h after. My experience is the menopause symptoms come on very slowly so you have plenty of time to sort if you want to. I thought it would hit like a brick but I still feel like me five months in x

Thank you. Sorry, how would I sort it? 😊

@Redandpinkstripes My consultant said you can take a mini HRT with it - tibolone is the one I was told - to minimise menopause symptoms and protect bone density. I haven’t had that yet (no one seems to know if I can take it with the norethisterone I’m also on) but I haven’t felt I need it yet. I’m just a bit warm.

Thank you, that's very helpful to know x

Interesting to read others experiences with this. I've had a prostap injection today with surgery planned at the end of January to remove a 10cm fibroid. I'm feeling slightly nervous about being in a menopausal state but would be delighted if I start feeling warm as I am always cold 😂

Redandpinkstripes · 25/11/2022 20:57

Thinend - hope it all goes well. I had mine today. I'm hot all the time anyway, so praying I don't get hotter. If you don't mind me asking, what symptoms did you have with your fibroid?

It was found when I was pregnant, I thought I was having an eptopic pregnancy. Absolutely agonising! Apparently the pregnancy hormone surge can make them grow.

After giving birth, it was fine. No real issues but the gynaes all say it needs to come out as it will only grow with the menopause which will cause big issues. I can feel it all the time, general heaviness, big tummy and heavy periods so I'm virtually anaemic 👎🏼
