Is this normal after a mirena coil fitting?

I had the mirena coil put in on Tuesday afternoon for the first time. The lovely nurse found it quite difficult to do because something wasn't straight so it was more prolonged than usual and I found it very painful (I have had 2 vaginal births but this didn't help!) I have low blood pressure anyway and it dropped after this and I fainted which wasn't ideal. I had quite bad cramps that day and some bleeding, but now, several days later I still have fairly unpleasant cramps that are going on most of the day and some discharge which is sometimes bloody.
I don't want to rush back to the nurse if this is normal but it does seem quite prolonged compared to other peoples' experiences that I know.
Any experiences or advice?

Just updating (am OP with a different username). I'm 4 months in now and all is totally fine - no cramping, no pain I totally forget it's there. I have had some kind of minimal bleed at the beginning of each month, but last time it was just one day.
I am glad I had it now but the first month was awful and I wanted it out a lot! So if you're near the beginning hang on in there for a few weeks

Thank you! Had mine fitted 3 days ago and fed up with the pain, now feel moody and PMS-y as well! This is actually my 2nd, I had one years ago fitted while I was sedated (for a different procedure) and apart from the first day it wasn't this crampy. I feel like my body is trying to push it out (which I guess it is).

I actually help fit coils as part of my job and we do warn people they can be crampy for a bit, but I'm still here on MN looking for hope and reassurance... Your post helped, thank you.

Same as OP, first month was a nightmare and I was convinced I’ll have it out.
after 4 weeks it suddenly settled and it’s great. Still spotting but feeling all the benefits and no negative side effects now, so try give it a few weeks even if it’s pretty horrible

Hi I’m in exactly the same boat. Had the mirena fitted to help with hrt and heavy periods but I’m crippled with pain that’s just like labour pains!! I’ve got bleeding too it’s been 10 days. This was meant to help not make my life worse. I’m crying most days. Should I remove or will it settle? I’m maxed out on painkillers. Help 😞

Well, I wasn't in pain per se but I believe every day for over a year until the damn thing bled itself out. So I would cut my losses being honest 🤷‍♀️

I just don’t know why the painkillers aren’t working. I really want to persevere but I simply can’t function. Period cramps go away with mefenamic acid but they’re not working on these cramps! Which are just like labour pains.

I really don’t think that’s normal. I had maybe 20 minutes of mild cramping and bleeding after mine was fitted.

The strings were long, but within 2 days they were short. The nurse told me to expect this as the coil moved up and settled. The

It sounds like me. I just took paracetamol for a week or so. It very soon settled down. I’ve never been able to feel the threads primarily because I don’t like rooting around in my vagina 😂

^ snap.
Cramping and spotting settled after 4/5 days. Px
