I've just had my smear results and they've found HPV and low grade dyskaryosis to cells.

I don't want to google I'm already an anxious person as it is, what next? What happens after the colposcopy if anything further is found.

Well done OP! I got a phone call from the Dr today saying my smear was abnormal. Somehow just hearing the word 'abnormal' is quite worrying but this thread has been really reassuring about the next steps and the fact it's very unlikely to be serious at this stage.

You’re totally right, cocoya. I’ve had abnormal since 2018, and then after 4 years the doctor told me she can see it is starting to regress. Never had to have any removals, just biopsies. Wasted a lot of mental energy worrying before the first colposcopy before finding out it was a small abnormality that is likely to go away on its own.

Hi, sorry to jump on this thread but i’m in the exact same boat as you OP, smear results back as low grade dyskaryosis and i have a colposcopy in a few weeks. I’m absolutely pooping myself to say the least, my anxiety is through the roof thinking the worst. I just wondered if you would mind sharing how long the results from the colposcopy took & what they came back as? Thanks🙂

So I've just had another smear after a year and I've still tested positive for HPV. Letter says they also tested for abnormal cells and they found changes to some of my cells called borderline changes. I have to go back to hospital in a few weeks for another colooscopy and possible treatment.
Has anyone been in a similar position to me?

Yep, I’ve been hpv positive with mild changes for 5 years. I just keep getting called back to colposcopy every year. Never had any treatment, just an eye kept on the area. I’m very chilled out about it now!

I had this and was clear at visit to gynae. Hope it goes ok.

Hi, sorry to jump on here again, how did you get on?

I had my follow up smear & colposcopy last month, during the colposcopy she said that she couldn’t see any abnormalities/cell changes and to just wait for smear results to see whether to return to normal recall for smears.
Was feeling rather positive after colposcopy, but i’ve just seen my smear results on NHS app which have come back hpv+ and low grade changes again. Very confused as i thought the colposcopy was a more in detailed look at the whole cervix compared to just the smear which is a sample, and now i’m back in that awful state of mind that somethings wrong?

Anyone else had anything similar?
