Painful ovarian cysts.

Hi- I'm 23 and have polocystic ovaries. I don't show many of the symptoms as I've learnt to regulate them through diet and supplements (I know this doesn't work for everybody).

I have had a cyst on my left ovary causing severe pain now since 2020. It's caused pain so intense that I was taken to hospital thinking my appendix had burst. I also had a baby last year, and I went to A&E with suspected ectopic pregnancy. It turned out to be a cyst on my left ovary (confirmed via scan).

Since my baby was born, I'd say every 2 months I get a flare up of pain on my left side, so severe it's made me faint and I had to leave work twice now- one being yesterday, meaning I'm losing money as I get no sick pay.

I've spoken to a GP (make) who completely dismissed me as I am too young for a smear test and it's apparently 'common'.

Do I call back to a GP a request a female? I'm at loss. I know it's not super often but then pains are so intense they're worse than labour pains. They last about 2 hours before easing. I'm at loss!

I've looked at getting it removed privately- but it's around £4k and I'm not in the best position for this right now as we bought a house earlier this year.

Your GP said you're too young for a smear test?

They are common but you need a scan to determine how big it is and to talk to a gynae about how it's impacting your life.

** how big it is now

cystremoveplease · 15/10/2022 13:11

Yes as I'm under 25.

Sorry, I'd don't realise it was 25 and over , I'm sure it used to be earlier .

I would ask the GP to refer me for a gynae appt.

Thank you. I felt very dismissed last time. I'm going to try again with a female GP.

That's a good plan. I would make it very clear how much it's impacting on day to day life and really bang on about how it hurts during sex - in my experience they tend to listen then 🙄

That doesn't surprise me at all! I'll keep that in mind, thank you.

cystremoveplease I hope you managed to get in to see a female GP? If you have not done so already ask your doctor to fast track you as it interfering in your everyday life and is so very painful. Explain you would like other scan internally as they can see things better inside with a probe. Then ask to be referred to a gynae, they will do all the relevant tests. Hopefully you can have it removed with laproscopy surgery as the risks are far less and healing time is much faster and far less painful. Please let us know how you are going on? Hope this helps a little? xx
