Lump in breast?

This is driving me mad - I would appreciate some advice...

A week and a half ago happened to notice I had a lump in my left breast. Quite a large lump. I was just coming off period so put it down to hormones. My breasts do seem to be quite lumpy anyway. I get the Coppa Feel monthly reminder texts to check my boobs but often forget and, with my lumpy bumpy boobs, can never seem to work out what's different and what's normal for me.

Anyhoo, got DH to have a squidge and he agreed there was something there and to see if it was there in a week's time. Well it still is there. Looked at advice online, including on Coppa Feel website, but not sure what to do. Is it just hormonal? I don't want to waste doctors time, as it's hard enough to get in as it is. But I'm concerned about leaving it too.

For context I'm 37 so not exactly in high risk category!

Definitely go and get it checked. You will not be wasting anyone's time. Don't be alarmed if the doctor refers you on the 2 week pathway. They do this for everyone. Please go.

Get yourself to the GP first thing on Monday morning to have it checked out. Hopefully it's nothing but have it checked.

Literally in exactly the same position and same age!

I’ve noticed mine for months though and have finally decided it’s an actual lump and I’ll phone dr next week.

This will be my 3rd (potential) breast clinic referral though so I feel like a hypochondriac

Stillamum3 · 06/10/2022 19:28

Yes, do get it looked at ASAP. Make sure you tell whoever you speak to when phoning that you have found a lump in your breast. That way you should be seen really urgently. Good luck, and I hope it is, as you suspect, just your normal "lumpiness"

Thanks so much for your thoughts everyone. You've convinced me! Like you @Fiveinthebed22 I worry about being a hyperchondriac. But then I've had a bit of experience of 'growths', with one ovarian cyst that caused the removal of ovary and tube 6 years ago, and new ovarian cyst plus 3 uterine fibroids diagnosed last year! So I'm a human allotment as a nurse put it.

Will make an appointment asap. Keeping everything crossed for you @Fiveinthebed22Let us know how you get on. Xx

Go and get it checked out. You need peace of mind. I been a three times and it was nothing. Don't let doctor fob you off either. Chances are it will be nothing but you.need looking at.

Thank you, I had a benign lump (Fibroadenoma) removed in 2015 and this feels the same so I’m guessing it’ll be that again.

Good luck!

Update: phoned doc's last week and receptionist told me in no uncertain terms to book a same day appointment. Turns out the lady doctor was in today so I phoned this morning and got an appointment for this evening. Doc said she thought that there was something similar going on with my other boob, which made me feel a lot less anxious. However when I got home, I had another squidge and feel certain I can feel an egg shaped lump in one. There's certainly a thick area in the other boob, in a similar place, but no descernible lump. Anyway, she wasn't completely confident about it so referred me to the breast clinic to make sure. Appointment on 24 October so I'll let you all how that goes.

@Fiveinthebed22 Have you managed to see your doc yet? Hope you're okay.

So glad you got seen and also got an appointment date so fast!

I’m ashamed to say I’ve not phoned them yet, I keep talking myself out of it!

I’ve got an outpatient appointment next week with another department for another possible tumour so I’ll maybe wait until I’ve been seen there. Falling apart!

Keep us updated x
