Hi there. So I'm 13 weeks postpartum c section. I started the desogesterol pill mid July about a week after having my son. I've been continuously heavy bleeding now for nearly 3 months. Was anyone else in the same situation with starting the pill again? Don't think it helped I had an emergency c section

I am overdue a smear which I've booked 25th October but won't be able to have it if still heavy bleeding

I would go back to your GP - it doesn’t sound normal.
And ask them to check your iron levels too after all that bleeding.

I am on 200mg of iron a day but I still feel drained continuously. I will ring them and get an appt. Thank you x

I've had extendrd periods before from being on injection after c section. GP prescribed me a pill to stop the bleed. It worked after about 3 days but the course was for a week. I had a little bleed after the pills stopped for a day or two and then after that had normal periods again.

I stopped bleeding about 5 days post c-section, and then it started up again but was on and off so I was prescribed the mini pill which GP said would sort it out, and I actually found that the pill made it worse. Since stopping the pill I've stopped bleeding continuously!

I also found lots of forums on here about postpartum bleeding made worse by the pill!

I had five months of bleeding on desogestrol before it settled down. I only stuck with it because the bleeding was lighter than my usual horrendous flooding.

fedup078 · 07/10/2022 10:07

Is that a mini pill?
If so I bled for months!
Did eventually settle down but the last time I took it I gave up as I got so fed up with it

Desogesterol is the progesterone only pill where you take it continuously every day.

did any of you stop taking Desogestrel due to the constant bleeding? If so how long after stopping did the bleeding stop?

I did. It was awful. And then messed up my cycles for about 2/3 months before finally settling down.

Then after a few more months of being back to normal I decided to give it another go, and the same stuff happened. I had a random bleed about a week after taking it, and that lasted about 10 days, then had about 4 days off before I started bleeding again, which I assumed was my period and then a day after that ended I was ovulating (I knew from being obsessed with all symptoms when TTC) and then had another bleed about a week after that. So many weeks of on off bleeding but it took my body about 3 months to get back to normal cycles. (However, this could also generally be my body getting back to normal as my DD is only 7 months. But the pill deffo made things worse!)

Me either! It's awful. I felt constantly irritated and angry too when I was on it.

They don't make all the side effects very clear!

Hi, I wondered if anyone had ever experienced continuous bleeding for 10 months after a c section?
I had a scan last weekend which showed pockets of blood in my womb which shouldn’t be there. I had a meeting with my consultant on Tuesday and she didn’t know what to do so was going to speak to her senior. I’m starting to really worry now as the scan results were marked ‘urgent’, the bleeding is really affecting my life. I worry about going anywhere incase I get caught out as sometimes all of a sudden the bleeding comes very heavy.
xx

@KatW1983 no I didn’t experience this! I had an emergency c section 11 weeks ago now and I bled for the first 2 weeks after it then it stopped then when I started on desogestrel my bleeding started again constantly and heavily so I stopped taking it now I haven’t bled since. Do you have any other side effects? Swollen stomach around scar, red stomach, puss coming out of scar? Could be infection?
