Experience After Laparoscopy

Looking for some advice.

Two weeks ago today I had a laparoscopy to untwist my ovary and remove the12cm cyst which caused it to twist. I was signed off work for a week, but then felt loads better so returned to work this week (desk job).

But then yesterday my period came on and now I'm in so much pain again. The cramps are dreadful, it's really heavy and in particular the incision that is on my lower stomach (about three inches below my belly button) is incredibly tender, the pain on and around the incision is like the surgery has only just been done again.

Has anyone else experienced this in the first period after this surgery? Is it normal?

Also, everything online says that you won't get a period for 4-6 weeks after laparoscopy, so I'm a bit thrown it's come on 2 weeks after (even though that is almost to the day when I was due).

The other thing bugging me is that the doctor mentioned that I need to go back at some point for them to check the ovary has healed (they were able to save it but it had been badly twisted, I was in surgery for several hours due to them struggling to untwist it). Does this mean that I could still actually lose the ovary?

Sorry for all the questions, I have no where else to turn. I don't know anyone who's been through anything similar.

Laparoscopy didn’t delay my period but it is common to feel more discomfort. The external incisions will look like everything is fully healed but there is still a lot of healing going on inside. I can’t answer about the possibility of losing the ovary, I imagine they would need to check everything looks ok at a follow up appointment.

It's normal to experience vaginal bleeding up to one month after laparoscopy. Many women do not have their next normal menstrual cycle for four to six weeks after surgery. When your normal cycle returns, you might notice heavier bleeding and more discomfort than usual.

I couldn't just read and run.
I had a laparoscopy years ago and everything was fine so can't help you with medical information.
Personally I would contact the doctor/ hospital now where the laparoscopy was done if I were you.
Hope you feel better soon.
