Period for 2 weeks

I've had my period for 2 weeks now. After about a week, it was pretty much at the end like a normal period and then it just started up again. I would say a medium flow which is still continuing and showing no signs of slowing down. This has never happened to me before. I'm 39 years old, nearly 40. Definitely not pregnant.

Sounds hormonal. I would book a gp appointment though

This happened to me but after I'd had a miscarriage - it was hormonal and hasn't ever happened again.

I could have written this myself except I am 40. Currently on day 13 and last night cramps and normal period bleeding started up again after a normal period followed by 5 days of lighter bleeding. It’s fresh blood and I wasn’t pregnant as I did a test the day my period started. I’m wondering about perimenopause as my periods have been all over the place for about 3 years but I’ve never had a long bleed like this before 🙄 Sending hugs and sympathy.

I'm in the same position but mid forties. Feel really drained too. Off to the GPs (in 3 weeks!)

KangarooKenny · 01/10/2022 10:00

It sounds like peri menopause. are you getting any other symptoms ?

SinisterBumFacedCat · 03/10/2022 00:53

Am in the same position, in fact over 2 weeks now. Period stopped 3days in and immediately restarted again. Not normal for me. I am peri but I also fell down the stairs just after my period started, I had a massive bruise on my arse and a bit of a lump but am wondering if this has triggered/broken something!

This started happening to me about 2 1/2 years ago when I was 39 and on one occasion I had a period that lasted for 20 days. Found out I was (and still am) peri menopausal. Not much fun is it

JennyWI · 03/10/2022 04:20

Oh wow! same boat at 38! had a 2 week period, then it stopped and since i get 4 day periods with one heavy day...

RosieRooster83 · 03/10/2022 05:10

It ended up lasting for 16 days in total and it's finally stopped now. Never happened to me before. Is it too early at 39 for peri menopause though?

That’s what I thought but apparently not. My GP did a blood test which showed very low oestrogen levels so she requested another one three months later. That one showed normal levels so she ruled out peri menopause. The 2 week periods continued and I also started to get other symptoms like night sweats, mood swings, weight gain and generally feeling run down. I saw a different GP who was fantastic and ran another set of blood tests that showed low oestrogen again. She referred me to the hospital for an ultrasound scan of my ovaries and a trans vaginal ultrasound. Apparently they’re now using these tests more commonly as a means of diagnosing PM rather than just blood tests. After all, your hormone levels fluctuate throughout the month which explains my first test showing low levels and my second one being normal.

This is so bizarre I started a thread a few days ago as my period slowed down then went to flooding by day 10!
I'm 30 do I hope I'm not perimenopausal yet.

Cervical erosion can cause this, so can fibroids, & a lot of benign conditions.

Hello, just wondered what the outcome was for you? I have same issue, on day number 12. Periods usually bang on 5 days. I'm 42 xxx
