Stopping breastfeeding golf- ball sized lump of milk

Hello,

I had to stop breastfeeding (totally unwillingly) a couple of days ago due to a health issue and medication I need to take. Apart from spending most of the day crying about it, I now have a golf ball sized lump of blocked, hard milk. I just cannot shift the bloody thing.

I've tried pumping, massage, hot water bottle, Epsom salts in the haaka, electric toothbrush; it's not going away. Now I'm getting stabbing pains in it.

I've been in and out of hospital the last two months, it's been a nightmare. I really do not want mastitis to add to my troubles.

Now what? Would really appreciate any other suggestions.

God how awful. You poor thing! Sounds like you’ve had a few months from hell. If you’ve tried all the tricks I’ve not much to add but have you tried standing topless and shaking them quite hard from side to side (fuck sake I hope there’s no pervy men on here). It might help to get things ‘moving’ particularly after a hot compress and a massage. Hope you’re okay.

I mean, she’s got a broken spine so I’m not sure that’s advisable tbh!

Oh god that didn’t occur to me! I’m sorry!

It made me laugh 😁If i violently shook my 36FFs from side to side I’d definitely do myself a mischief anyway!

Just make sure the curtains aren’t open 😱

Gloriosity · 26/09/2022 17:30

How are you @glowingtwig?

glowingtwig · 26/09/2022 17:57

Thank you so much everyone and for checking back on me. The shaking side to side broken spine comments made me chuckle so much, so thank you for that too.

Day 1.5 of the antibiotics and it has gone down significantly, I have my bra stuffed with cabbage and although it is still lumpy it's a tiny amount compared to the lemon lump. Thank goodness!

Now just need to keep up gentle massage and hope the other boob doesn't go the same way... trying to be better at hand expressing.

I’ve had a huge blockage like this just behind the nipple. A hot flannel( for a while before) and then a really(really!) firm massage got it out. The first part was almost cheese like in texture and then a big spray of milk.

sorry you’ve been unwell. That’s rubbish.

I had this too 20 odd years ago. Just as you describe. My left breast was so much bigger than the right and I still have stretch marks on that one breast due to the huge milk blockage.

Ah that is a GOOD update, I’m so pleased ❤️

glowingtwig · 26/09/2022 19:00

Thanks @Gloriosity Smile hopefully it will all be on the up from here on.

I remember having mastitis with 2 of my DC and I swear I'd never felt so Ill in my life before having to cope with that.

Hope your poor back is soon healed and that your boobs start behaving themselves a bit more 💐
