Previous history (in 30s) of large benign cyst on ovary (removed) , atypical hyperplasia (during IVf- no evidence of this now), past traces of endometriosis and heavy bleeding / low iron.
Now approaching mid 40s and this year I've had some heavy bleeding and my iron level was v low (3) a couple of months ago - has improved (not sure whether this is just iron tablets or also because I've not been bleeding as heavily or frequently for the last 2 months since investigations began).
Recent scans / biopsy have revealed adenomyosis and nothing else. I've been offered a mineral coil, ablation or hysterectomy. Don't know what to choose or whether to do nothing and see if periods continue to improve especially with impending menopause. On the other hand, I'm wondering whether my previous issues means I'm more at risk of future gynae problems so taking action now while offered is a good idea. I could regret doing nothing if periods become v heavy again. I don't know if that's likely.
I am leaning towards ablation but have read that ablation is ideal for shallow adenomyosis but deep adenomyosis may become trapped behind scar tissue and worsen. I don't know the full extent of mine or where it was. I found out I had adenomyosis by phone and have thought of these questions since. I'm supposed to decide on my treatment route and have made a GP appointment to see if they can help. Anyone had a similar choice? Any experience/ advice would be great. Thank you!
