The most painful thrush after sex, can't cope with the pain!

Hi
Hoping someone can help. I have been seeing someone for a few months and we don't use condoms. We had sex this week and literally the next day I started getting sore and itchy downstairs. I put it down to too much sex or maybe I wasn't lubricated enough etc.
But as the days progressed , the pain and itching have got more and more severe to the point now where I'm limping and can barely sit down. I looked down there with a mirror and there was lots of white discharge (sorry I know that's a bit disgusting)
I've never had anything like this before. I am worried because sex with him has triggered it , whatever it is.
I'm assuming it's thrush as I have all the symptoms. I don't understand how he has suddenly given me this now after we have been having unprotected sex for months.
The pain is off the charts and I've tried Canesten pessaries cream and the oral tablet for Thrush and nothing is alleviating the pain at all.
I'm now worried I have an STI, it started literally the day after we had sex.
Can anyone help, I am in total agony

I think I would get an STI test as it could be something else. Lots of thrush symptoms are shared with other things and it sounds like you're in a lot of pain.

Thanks, I've bought a Thrush test to see if that's what it is. I think I many have to get an STI test done as well 😪

Op get an sti test regardless of the thrush test outcome

OldTinHat · 10/09/2022 13:18

Sounds like herpes to me. Get tested OP.

Unprotected sex. In this day and age. Really?

KenAddams · 10/09/2022 13:33

Was it defo discharge and not like a cluster of cauliflower ?

rwalker · 10/09/2022 13:38

Obviously no harm in testing but that’s an very quick timescale for a STI infections normally take a good few days u in f not at least a week to become systematic
does sound like thrush

Ally256 · 10/09/2022 13:46

Try the pessaries rather than the cream

Rainbowshine12 · 10/09/2022 13:49

I didn't realise thrush could be this bad, Its so itchy and sore. I t feels like a million little knives down there. I've never had it before!
Did one of those tests for BV, Trichomoniasis and Thrush. The swab stayed yellow which means I don't have BV or Trichomoniasis but if its yellow then you either don't have an infection or you have thrush

I tried the pessary, it was awful, couldn't even get it in properly as it was too sore

I've never had thrush that has been so painful I could not walk. You need to get to the sexual health clinic. They will test for thrush and stds . It's possible you could have both thrush and an infection.

Second getting an STI test but, yes, thrush can be very painful and itchy. I suffered dreadfully when I was younger and it wasn't until I moved to the US and was given oral anti fungal medicine that it cleared up! The UK doctors had tried various ointments and had even suggested that the pain on intercourse might be psychological (difficult to deal with in a fairly new relationship!). The oral drugs worked (and so did the relationship, now married for 40 years).

Thrush can trigger vulvodynia. Unfortunately this happened to me and I suffered for a long, long time (completely resolved now). GUM clinics are the best resource for anything like this (GP hopeless) so I would definitely pay a visit.

I agree get a check booked asap. if you are in pain you need to be seen by a professional anyway.
