Hi there,

I'm around 8 hours after taking misoprostol. I am home alone and struggling to distract myself from the pain. I'm also scared that it hasn't yet worked as I don't feel I have passed the pregnancy and my cramps are still ongoing.

The only family I have nearby are looking after my child (which is obviously important) as I want them to sleep well and not witness me throwing up/hiding in the loo. However, I'm still in pain and it doesn't seem to be dying down?

Spending the night on my own and the possibility of an incomplete abortion is starting to really scare me :( Any advice or similar experiences?

Thanks so much

Thinking of you at this distressing time. On the radio recently there was a woman who was told to move around and go up.and down the stairs to try to accelerate the procedure. Take care

scaredandlonely7 · 07/09/2022 21:23

@JoeMaplin I really appreciate you asking. Honestly so silly but makes me tearfully happy to have someone checking up on me. I can’t thank you enough.

The cramps keep coming in waves but the bleeding has basically stopped/is much less so I’m quite confused x

@scaredandlonely7 thinking of you Flowers.

I went through the same as you around 7 years ago. I was alone and scared also, but you will be fine, it will make you realise how strong you are.

I already had a dc at the time aswel, I couldn't wait for a cuddle from my dc, it won't be long until you have that too.

The cramps were horrible, all I will say is, you will know when it's happened.

I still had cramps for a few days afterwards.

I didn't have any follow up scan or anything but I know it "worked".

I don't regret my decision and I rarely think of that time in my life.

Try rocking back and forth or on your hands and knees and rocking.

Sending love Flowers

Just wanted to update you all that I had an hour of sleep! It was absolutely amazing. Everything has slowed down and the bleeding has stopped altogether. I’m not sure this is a good thing and I definitely don’t feel I’ve passed the pregnancy.

However, I’m just going to try and rest and hope everything restarts overnight or in the morning.

I have to say that the kindness of strangers on Mumsnet is amazing. Everyone posts about all the trolls on here but I am eternally grateful for the supportive words and virtual hand hold you have all given me in when feeling so sore and alone.

@tiredtiredtiredd Thank you so much for your advice and kindness! I cannot wait to see DC tomorrow

You made it to the morning op! How are you feeling? Glad you got some sleep.

scaredandlonely7 · 08/09/2022 08:02

@PatienceHeatherstone I’m so relieved it’s the morning and managed to get quite a bit of sleep. Everything stopped overnight but since I’ve got up and moved around cramps are coming back quickly. I’m just hoping that it will be actually over at some point this morning. It definitely still feels midway through.

There’s an even at my DC school after pickup which I really want to attend as it seems important, so praying I’ll be okay by then.

Thank you for your concern :)

Really hope you are feeling ok soon and can go to the event. If it’s a meet the teacher type thing, or a phonics etc. workshop, ask if they can give you a video link if necessary. Or if you can’t attend because you’re unwell still, I’m sure they’d give you a 1:1 slot with the teacher to catch up. Sending good thoughts for you Flowers

AGreatUsername · 08/09/2022 11:10

Glad you got some sleep OP. Fingers crossed this is over for you this morning and you can go to the school event if you feel up to it. Be kind to yourself.

I had misoprostal in December for a missed miscarriage and the cramps were awful, I'm sending lots of love. I found heat on my tummy super helpful and going to the bathroom and almost "pushing" if that makes sense? That seemed to speed things up. I used some of those tena pants (got them in black as a pretence to glamour) and they gave me a good sense of security to get out and about the next day as we had to drive 3 hours. They recommended I take a pregnancy test 3 weeks post misoprostal, 3 weeks is apparently enough time for the hcg to clear from your system. Thinking of you today x

Hi everyone,

I made it to the school event and with strong painkillers I've found that I cannot feel the cramps at all now. However, I'm really concerned. The bleeding has been non-existent except when I 'push' on the loo. There have been no clots and I definitely do not feel that I've passed the pregnancy.

I assume the misoprostol has worn off now and I am really scared that this has been an incomplete process :(. I am not scheduled for any kind of scan to check and I don't know what to do. Do you think it's possible that it has worked without me noticing? Or is this unlikely? The cramps were very bad at points yesterday but the bleeding wasn't proportional to this.

TMI but I usually get very heavy periods and pass clots during them. This feels abnormal because I'm not even bleeding when I walk around like a period. I'm so confused

Hello OP,
Thought of you when I got in, and just checked to see if there has been an update..
As I've only had a Morning After Pill {and I heard that even they can fail} I can't advise, but if I were you, I'd contact the provider of the meds, or your GP.

Even if other women say they were ok, Statistically not every women will have the same experience, if you are at all concerned, see your HCP as a matter of urgency.
Best Wishes

oakleaffy · 08/09/2022 16:35

As they only prescribe for 10 weeks or less, there won't me much material to pass?
{women who have had miscarriages who say it was just like a heavy period in early stages}
You really need expert advice with a medically qualified, experienced person.

scaredandlonely7 · 08/09/2022 16:40

Thank you for the advice. I'm going to ring the number I was given tomorrow to get medical advice. My worry is that this is much lighter than I'm used to with a period and I'm not even bleeding in the way I would with a period. I sort of wonder if the first medication for opening my cervix/softening it, didn't really work. I'm very scared of ending up with retained blood/an infection.

OP posts:
PatienceHeatherstone · 08/09/2022 17:23

I’m sorry it’s all been extra difficult :( Glad you made it to the event. Definitely call the advice line, and if they’re not helpful call your GP.

oakleaffy · 09/09/2022 00:51

That sounds like a good idea, They will know a lot more than us as to what is usual after this medication .

Devo1818 · 10/09/2022 16:44

I think you probably have passed it tbh, but if not you'll know when you take a PT - did they tell you how long to wait? If it is still positive, that's when they do the scan and repeat medication. This happened with me and it was absolutely fine. No infection, just the same meds again, and a small amount more bleeding, not much more pain and then the negative test. Good luck!

scaredandlonely7 · 10/09/2022 18:06

My bleeding has definitely increased over the last day. (I took the last of the meds Wednesday lunchtime). I did phone them and they said it was unusual not to have passed it in the first 24hrs but that they had to wait for 7 days to say it was 'abnormal'. I am hopeful that as the bleeding has picked up, maybe I will have passed it without noticing and won't need more medication?

Thank you everyone for your ongoing advice and support. I finally feel a bit more positive and like this experience will hopefully be over soon.

Hello OP, I don't know anything about this but just wanted to join in the hand-holding. Must be so worrying not to have a clear sense of it having worked. Is your DC back with you now too?

oakleaffy · 10/09/2022 20:39

Glad you are OK, OP.. :)

scaredandlonely7 · 11/09/2022 11:05

@heldinadream Thank you for the support! I'm still not sure it's worked but just waiting it out. I think when it's something I've been anxious about and never experienced before, it's just hard not to be certain it's 'over' :(

My DC is back with me and it's been so wonderful having hugs and time together. I've just been very cautious about them seeing any blood etc. I don't want to scare them!

OP posts:
PatienceHeatherstone · 11/09/2022 12:41

I'm glad that you're feeling more positive OP, that you have your DC with you and a plan for the medical side of things. I hope all gets slowly back to normal for you this week.
