Heavy bleeding 18 days after last period?

I woke up today having started bleeding overnight. It was very heavy, bright red blood and very painful cramps (more than usual). The weird thing is my period only ended 18 days ago and I’m about 7/8 days off being due for my next one.

I have also noted that I’ve been passing clots when using the toilet (added a pic for reference and I’m very sorry for the too much info) I have experienced this before, but usually it’s very tiny specs unlike this one.

Could anyone shed some light? Had a similar experience before?

A warning about the gross photo would be nice.

I think you brace for photos like that when you open period threads.

OP, could you be menopausal? My periods started going like that when I hit my 40s. It turned out to be fibroids.

How old are you OP?

Could you have been pregnant op? And this is now a loss? Just thinking with the clots your passing x

Any chance you’ve had covid?

I had a bleed like this without the clots, same timing as you. A week before I was due.

I had a smear, ultrasound and physical examination and everything was normal.

Ive been told it’s stress or covid, as covid has been known to affect periods.

Absolutely speak to the GP and insist on investigations.
