Vagina large lump injury from tampon

Has anyone else had this?

Im on my period and used a tampon yesterday evening. After inserting it felt really uncomfortable but I stupidly left it in for a couple of hours. A few hours later after I removed it I started having pain near the base of my vagina where the hole is. This morning the pain is still there and now I have a golf ball sized lump at the base of my vagina that extends into the leg. Its slightly painful but not horrendous and I’m not having any other abdominal pain. Lump feels hard.

Anyone had anything similar? If so how long did it take to go and did you take anything for it?

thanks

Could it be a bartholin cyst?

Ac1234567 · 29/08/2022 22:37

I’m not sure would that appear within 24 hours? It’s super weird!

They absolutely can appear within hours. I once had one that started with a slight ‘bee sting’ type pain at 12.30am (was on a Night Shift at work so aware of time); by the end of the shift it was the size of a grape and, by midday, the size of a plum. I was in agony so went to A&E by 3.30pm and was admitted that night for surgery.

If it’s spread as far as your leg, I’d be making an emergency appointment at your GP’s for this morning if possible and, if not, then I’d be going to the local walk in/minor injuries Centre to be checked out. It may well need antibiotics and, depending on what they think it is, further investigations or surgery.

Agree with it probably being a Bartholin cyst. See your gp for antibiotics

LovedFedAndNoonesDead · 31/08/2022 10:19

How are you doing now @Ac1234567? Did you get an appointment with the GP?

Ac1234567 · 31/08/2022 15:08

Hi thanks for checking in, saw the nurse this morning who thought it was an abscess/cyst as you mentioned. I’ve been prescribed antibiotics for a week so really hoping it clears it up as it’s been increasing painful!

If it doesn't start feeling better in few days go back in, I waited longer than j probably should have for antibiotics to kick in and they didn't, it was so painful. Mine had turned into an abcess. They soon got me sorted an appointment to get it drained which was an epic relief.
Baths helped it feel less painful.

I had (have) a Bartholons cyst. It appeared in a day, just bigger than a golf ball and after about three very uncomfortable days, it ruptured. My only regret is not squeezing the fuck out of it despite the discomfort and emptying it fully as it's now been there for about 10 years. Grape sized but completely painless and doesn't really affect anything. A little part of me wants to embrace my sporner corner self and pop it properly with a syringe but I'm a coward.

You can have them dealt with surgically if they're bad enough.

I had one a few weeks ago. I went to the walk in centre who sent me to A&E who gave me antibiotics and told me to go back if it got worse. It burst the next day and the antibiotics did their stuff which I was very pleased about as I've still got side effects 3 weeks later! I had 3 days off work sick as I couldn't sit down, I didn't realise how painful they are.

OP I hope the antibiotics work for you and you're feeling better soon

Glad
yo hear you’ve been seen and got antibiotics. However, if it gets too painful or you start to feel generally unwell with temperature or flu like symptoms, please go back or, if you can’t get an appointment, speak to 111 as it could be spreading under the skin and need surgery to resolve it x

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 01/09/2022 08:08

To follow up @LovedFedAndNoonesDead's post, A&E told me to go straight back if it got worse and my GP told me the same. He also made it clear that no one would think it was a waste of A&E's time going for that.

Ac1234567 · 01/09/2022 12:55

I’ve taken 6 in total now and they don’t seem to have done much. Still painful and lump doesn’t seem to have reduced. I’ll go to A&E tonight or tomorrow if I haven’t seen a considerable difference. Thanks for the advice ladies.

I couldn’t take the pain anymore and antibiotics were doing nothing. It was a bartholim cyst. Just had it drained under local anaesthetic and only took 15 mins, so relieved to have had it done.

Thanks for the advice, hopefully this will help women in the future.

Glad to hear it’s been sorted out. Plenty of salt baths while it heals and settles down xx
