Persistent Genital Arousal Disorder (PGAD)?! Help!

I am a regular poster and I've name changed for this as I'm very embarrassed by it. Promise I'm not a troll. Have only told DH and I'm trying to muster the courage to talk to a GP.

I am female (obviously, as I'm posting in women's health, but for the avoidance of any doubt!) and in my mid-30s.

For several days now, I've had what I can only describe as an unprovoked and constant aroused feeling - sensitive and swollen vulva, contracting muscles (like a constant low level orgasm that doesn't subside), and pressure on my bladder (I feel as if I need a wee all the time, but struggle to wee).

I've tried having sex and that didn't help, masturbation didn't either. It might sound like a "nice" problem to have but I'm finding it very uncomfortable - bordering on painful - and frustrating. I wouldn't mind an increase in my sex drive (DH certainly wouldn't!) but it's actually putting me off having sex. And it feels very inappropriate to be so (physically, not mentally) aroused when going about my day-to-day including looking after my young kids Sad

I've Googled it (as you do) and found Persistent Genital Arousal Disorder, PGAD. It seems to fit I guess. Does anyone else have it? Any advice?

How did you get on @Helpmeandmyvagina - I’ve got it atm and it’s driving me crazy…and not in a good way !

Helpmeandmyvagina · 22/11/2022 07:39

@Lavenderfowl
Luckily it just subsided eventually. Hope yours does too. Hang on in there!

Thank you for the speedy reply, and I will hope for the same outcome!

Hi Lavenderfowl,

did yours resolve in the end? I’m experiencing the same thing , I’m so stressed and worried. Mine was triggered by drinking too much cold water, going out in the cold and then needing the loo and holding it in. It’s like my bladder went into spasm… few days later here I am with this symptom , it’s awful I just want to cry

Lavenderfowl · 14/11/2023 19:20

Poor you it is horrible...it stopped after a few days thank god, and then came back for a day or so when I was super-stressed. Sometimes I tried to ignore it, sometimes I tried to relieve it which lasted for about an hour...but unfortunately I just had to wait until it disappeared. Relax if you can and that will help, and make sure you're nice and warm so you're not physically tense as that def made it worse. It'll go, and my sympathies, just reading your post has reminded me how awful it is xx

Grace02 · 14/11/2023 19:25

Thank you so much for replying. It’s nice to read that it’s resolved for two people now on this thread. I don’t think the cold weather helps. My urine symptoms are subsiding but just left with this horrible arrousal that I don’t want , need to try and distract myself and not pay it attention but it’s just so difficult not to give into the stress and catastrophise the situation 😭

Lavenderfowl · 14/11/2023 19:34

You're welcome @Grace02 but Def try not to stress about the PGAD itself as you'll create a vicious circle...it's no big deal it's not a symptom of anything it's just annoying!

Mothernamechange · 14/11/2023 20:16

Happened to me too. It’s awful :( went away after about 4-5 days. Still have no idea what caused it but had some mild gastro symptoms as well so maybe something related. Who knows?!

Hang in there. It only happened once to me a few years ago. A few times I have felt a tiny twinge like it’s returning - hard to explain. But I just left it strictly alone down there for a day or so and it never turned into anything.

Grace02 · 14/11/2023 22:34

Tomorrow is day 5, 😞 don’t know how long to give it before I seek help because this is unbearable, so uncomfortable at night too. Cant believe this all started from me drinking a load of cold water before going out (why did I do that I’ll never know)
